We are currently seeking a Healthy & Safety Manager for our Faro Mine complex.

  • Work constructively to ensure a collaborative and cooperative team approach with knowledgeable and timely input and contribution. Supports the objectives and responsibilities of all other management and leadership staff;

  • Carries out Health and Safety (H&S) systems Quality Control Inspections and Quality Assurance Audits on all activities on site;

  • Ensures H&S awareness and compliance with federal and territorial regulations and guidelines by the MCM staff, visitors and all sub-contractors;

  • Able to work a 3 week on 3 weeks off rotation, 10hrs a day.

  • This management position is expected to achieve Mine Rescue Certification, if physically able, and to maintain the certification

  • Manages Site Wide SOP process and reviews and approves sub-contractor’s SOPs;

  • Coordinates H&S requirements between work package areas and in common site areas;

  • Responsible for resolving all issues and liaising with regulators on H&S compliance while keeping Client informed;

  • Responsible for reporting on all H&S monitoring and compliance activities;

  • Reviews design and tender documents for all work packages prior to their finalization, in support of any Project-specific Health and Safety requirements;

  • Reviews sub-contractor Environmental Protection Plans prior to site work beginning for all remediation, construction and C&M activities to ensure they align with the Project Safety, Health and Environmental Plan.

  • Should have knowledge and experience (a minimum of 5 years) in managing a team overseeing Health and Safety on construction and/or mine sites. Work experience should include occupational health and safety monitoring, regulatory reporting, coordinating a team, analyzing and interpreting regulatory requirements associated with construction sites and mine sites. Should be a registered as a Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP) under the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (formerly the Association for Canadian Registered Safety Professionals) or an equivalent designation as assessed by Client.

  • Update the Project-Specific Occupational Health and Safety Plan and its attachments at least annually and when there is a significant change of activity on site.

  • Oversee Health and Safety Officers, who will visit and document site conditions daily, for the duration of the MCM Contract;

  • Facilitate site-specific occupational health and safety orientation sessions to all workers and visitors.

  • Perform site-specific safety hazard inspections and assessment for activities conducted at the Faro Mine Complex;

  • Provide enhanced work-site testing (blood/urine/respiratory) and result interpretation to workers who may be exposed through work activities to hazardous conditions which could cause health impacts (e.g. demolition of contaminated buildings, exposed to dust from contaminated materials, etc.) and create and maintain a workers’ health baseline for local workers that choose to participate;

  • Conduct the Occupation, Health and Safety air quality monitoring program to identify and monitor potentially hazardous air quality conditions for workers

  • Provide training to workers on dust awareness and dust control methods.

  • Maintain certification under the Certificate of Recognition Program through Northern Safety Network Yukon or an equivalent certification approved by Canada;

  • Existing hazardous material risks are monitored and that the MCM actively seeks out, identifies and reports on new risks associated with previously unidentified hazardous materials;

  • Responsible for the safety of property on site and for protection of persons adjacent to site, to the extent that they may be affected by the conduct of work;

  • Firefighting measures on site are (and remain) compliant with the Yukon Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation for aboveground mine sites;

  • Ensure a certified Mine Rescue Team is maintained, as per Yukon’s Mine Rescue Standard;

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health(or related field) or equivalent experience

  • At least 5 years’ cumulative demonstrated work experience in managing a team, overseeing health & safety on industrial sites or mine sites;

  • Experience in developing, implementing and auditing Health and Safety Plan and Programs for industrial sites or mine sites;

  • At least one (1) project or one (1) year cumulative demonstrated experience in the last 10 years prior to the closing date of the solicitation work engagement in the last 10 years demonstrating the resource’s experience in occupational health and safety monitoring, regulatory reporting, analyzing reports, and conducting investigations;

  • Must be a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or an equivalent designation, as assessed by Canada.

Asset Qualifications:

  • 10 years or more of cumulative demonstrated work experience in managing a team, overseeing health & safety on industrial sites or mine sites;

  • Demonstrated experience in Emergency Response planning;

  • Up to date Mine Rescue Team Certification.

  • Demonstrated experience working in the Yukon;

  • Certified to provide training resulting in job relevant training, including: driver training, First Aid, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, Transportation of Dangerous Goods legislation and/or certified to conduct respiratory equipment fit testing, ergonomic assessments, audiometric and air quality testing;

  • More than 5 years’ experience conducting Health and Safety work on remote sites.
