In this role, the Lead Systems Administrator position responsibilities are to oversee multiple systems and multiple personnel. Position requires working with remote customers and widely dispersed team members.

As a Lead System Administrator, the incumbent applies a high level of technical and functional expertise to lead the administration staff in the day-to-day operations of a DoD enclave. The incumbent applies accepted standards and best business practices to ensure the associated systems and applications are installed, secured, and maintained to DoD standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team of system administrators, including delegation of tasks

  • Network architecture and design

  • Software and hardware installation and management

  • Maintaining systems security per DoD policy and industry best practices

  • Researching and reviewing hardware and software solutions

  • Working effectively with the team’s software developers to meet their needs

  • Supporting and coordinating with sites’ security managers, users, and onsite personnel

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Networking: Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with ssh, IPv4 & IPv6, DNS and DHCP

  • Security: Linux hardening, PKI, SSL, firewalls

  • System Administration: Strong Linux system administration experience

  • Operating Systems: Linux (Red Hat/CentOS preferred)

  • Cluster Management software (xCAT, Bright Cluster Manager)

  • Cluster Filesystems (Lustre, GPFS, Ceph)

  • Scheduling software (Slurm, LSF, PBS)

  • Virtualized and container environments (VMware or similar, KVM, Docker/Podman, Singularity)

  • Configuration management (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Salt or similar)

  • Experience with GPU configuration and management

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong time-management skills

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • DoD/FISMA/NIST computing & networking security

  • SAN storage

  • RPM building/packaging

  • Web server management (apache or similar)

  • Database management (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL)

  • Scripting (bash, python, perl)

  • Kerberos, SSO

  • SELinux

  • Splunk administration

  • System monitoring (Prometheus/Grafana, Zabbix)

  • Multiple architectures (x86_64, ppc64le, aarch64)

Other Requirements:

  • US Citizenship and US residency

  • Active DoD security clearance, Secret or higher

  • RedHat System Administrator or Linux+ certification (required by start date)

  • CISSP or Security+ certification (required by start date)

Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a security clearance.
