Roles and Responsibilities:

Project Activities

  • Supervise the overall implementation of the 3D modeling and 2D CAD drawing preparation for all engineering disciplines involving: PDS; SmartPlant Review; Interference detection; MicroStation; Plotting; backup and archive procedures.

  • Review the overall scope for the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Integrated Engineering (CIE) Implementation Plan, including interfaces to Integrated Engineering Databases.

  • Conduct weekly inter-discipline coordination meetings.

  • Guide the usage of CAD S/W and Utilities to leverage designer efficiencies.

  • Guide the interdisciplinary modeling coordination and progress assessment.

  • Ensure plotting standards are properly incorporated.

  • Arrange appropriate training for CAD designers when needed.

  • Coordinate with Project Engineering Staff on project progress.

  • Evaluate and establish CAD S/W implementation standards and guidelines.

  • Train personnel and monitor the proper implementation of CAD related procedures according to project requirements and corporate standards.

  • Review drawing releases during Inter-Discipline Checks (IDC) and Inter-Disciplinary Reviews (IDR) including DCN and FCN preparation for adherence to project standards.

  • Troubleshoot CAD software problems.

  • Monitor and expedite Engineering S/W problem resolution with Corporate Engineering Systems Director.

  • Participate in new SW implementation directions and purchases.

Inter-department Computer Interfacing

  • Coordinate with Information Systems (IS) on CAD and Engineering SW related issues.

  • Coordinate with Corporate Engineering Systems Director on project SW requirements.

  • Coordinate with vendor-based SW training, evaluation and troubleshooting, interface with Document Control (EPCDC) for Drawing delivery workflow and EDMS interfaces. Interface with Facility management on CAD HW issues.

Client Presentations

  • Coordinate SmartPlant Review preparation for Monthly Design Reviews

  • Produce high quality renderings of the 3D model for PowerPoint presentations and static displays.


  • 4 year technical degree as well as 15+ years of relevant experience (including job leadership).


  • Fifteen years experience in 3D CAD modeling involving PDS applications, with more than ten years experience working as 3D CAD Coordinator and independently executed at least two projects as 3D CAD Coordinator.

Specific KSAs

  • Conversant with setting up a PDS project configuration, setting up seed file, design areas, specs, 3D models, oracle databases, multidisciplinary modeling applications, vector-hidden lines, interference checking, libraries, reports, archives and retrievals of model data. Working knowledge of SmartPlant Review, and MS Office applications. Capable of guiding day-to-day modeling activities, troubleshooting, and training designers in PDS modeling applications in accordance with project requirements. Knowledge of SmartPlant Foundation is a plus. Working Knowledge of the ISMS core functions and guiding principles sufficient to integrate into all testing and technology development activities.
