Job Description:

Parsons is seeking to hire Electrical Engineer’s with 2+ years of experience in west coast area of Canada to work on Traction Power and Distribution systems of the transit projects in a variety project. The selected candidate, supported by senior engineers will prepare the specification and design of AC and

DC traction power systems, including:

  • Interface with civil disciplines for the development of site plans, duct banks, and ground grids.

  • Interface with systems and vehicle engineering disciplines for the sizing and design of the traction power systems.

  • Interface with Designers and Engineers from other disciplines.

  • Ability to travel to supplier, client, or construction site locations, is expected


  • Development and modification of specifications, single line diagrams, equipment layout, schematics, and conduit and cable schedules

  • Assist in technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses.

  • Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations.

  • Prepares material/equipment specifications and purchase requisitions; reviews supplier data; witnesses shop tests, assists with assessing supplier manufacturing capabilities.

  • Designing, programming and commissioning of Traction Power PLC/RTU controlled systems.

  • Provide technical support for procurement, construction and testing and commissioning.

  • Develops operation and maintenance plans and procedures.

  • Conduct surveys and site investigations.

  • Support power studies (e.g. load flow, short circuit).


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, and an Engineer in Training with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience, which should ideally include:

  • CAD/CAE training and familiarity.

  • Experience in, or familiarity with, AC and DC Traction Power System design and the design of substations Medium to Low voltage, Low Voltage (480V) Motor Control Centers, and Uninterruptible Power Supply Systems.

  • Review of shop drawings and design submittals by contractors, suppliers, and consultants.

  • Developing and executing test procedures for electrical equipment and cables.

  • Inspections of electrical systems on railway and urban transit infrastructure, including stations, substations, guideways, tunnels, yards.
