Job Description:

Parsons Environmental Team has an immediate opening for an Technical Specialist with a strong environmental background to join our Calgary Office. We are looking for a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) , Professional Geologist (P.Geo) or other qualified scientist with 5+ years of progressive and diverse experience with upstream salt and petroleum hydrocarbon impacted sites in Western Canada.

We are looking for a technical specialist to support environmental project work as it relates to site assessment, risk assessment/management and remediation of impacted sites. Candidates should have knowledge of Alberta Tier 1 and Tier 2 site-specific guidelines and be able to perform Tier 2 site-specific guideline modification, including the use of groundwater analytical and numerical models. Similar experience with CCME and Saskatchewan regulatory framework would be an asset. Direct experience with the Alberta Subsoil Salinity Tool, risk assessment, soil vapour intrusion, statistical trend analysis, and monitored natural attenuation for upstream and downstream, predominantly salt, petroleum hydrocarbon and fertilizer contaminated sites is preferred. Ability to provide site-specific risk management and remedial options for complex sites to meet Client needs is required. Hands-on experience in GIS, environmental database management and basic programming is a bonus.

Responsibility also includes regulatory communication and mentoring/supervision of junior staff. Candidates should have a strong sense of self-motivation toward assigned projects with proven ability as a team player. Work should be performed in a technically competent and professional manner that is responsive to client comments and is considered to be a value-added product or service by the client. Candidates should possess excellent written and oral communication skills.


  • 4-year degree in a science curriculum to the assigned discipline

  • 5+ years of related work experience

  • Professional Registration

  • Proficiency in various software applications typically used with the assigned discipline is required

  • Requires a demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills

  • Thorough understanding of Alberta (and preferably CCME, Saskatchewan and British Columbia) rules and regulations
