Parsons is now hiring an Intermediate Traffic Management Engineer with a desire to work on roadway, transit, and highway projects that change the fabric of our communities. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of traffic flow through construction zones on design-build and traditional delivery projects. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of direct experience in developing and implementing comprehensive Traffic Management plans including traffic control plans and detour design.

As an Intermediate Traffic Management Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and overseeing the execution of Traffic Management Plans, coordinating with various stakeholders including project managers, contractors, and government agencies, and conducting site inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations. You will analyze traffic patterns, identify potential issues, and recommend improvements to optimize traffic flow and minimize disruptions.

In this role, you will also prepare and review detailed traffic control plans, detour plans (including geometric plan and profile, as well as roadside safety requirements), and signage layouts, ensuring they meet all local, provincial, and federal requirements while also considering interactions and effects across various stages of construction. You will provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and project teams, ensuring that all Traffic Management-related activities are carried out effectively and efficiently.

This position requires a strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design Traffic Management plans and traffic staging schemes for various construction projects.

  • Prepare and review traffic control plans, detour plans, and signage layouts.

  • Ensure all Traffic Management plans comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations.

  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure Traffic Management plans are effectively implemented.

  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with Traffic Management plans and safety standards.

  • Analyze traffic flow and patterns to identify potential issues and recommend improvements.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and project teams.

  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates on Traffic Management-related activities.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to Traffic Management plans and activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related field) and 5+ years of related work experience.

  • Registered as Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), or eligible for registration with Canadian provincial engineering regulatory bodies.

  • Experience working on BC Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure or Alberta Transportation projects is an asset.

  • Understanding of provincial Traffic Management Manuals and Temporary Traffic Control guidelines.

  • Strong knowledge of TAC geometric design guide and provincial supplements, as well as the MUTCD for Canada.

  • Strong knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices. Knowledge of Synchro, VISSIM or other traffic simulation software is an asset.

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley Systems OpenRoads Designer software and tools.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Salary Range:

$66,500 - $123,800
