Job Description:

Would you enjoy being involved on a wide variety of analytical tasks on complex projects? Parsons is now hiring a Biologist for our rapidly expanding environmental project. This role will report to the Environmental Manager (EM) and will be generally responsible for assisting the Environmental Manager with the fulfillment of the overall Environmental Management System (EMS) and requirements under the Design-Build Agreement (DBA) Schedule 6. Preference will be given to candidates that are an Appropriately Qualified Professional (AQP) in wildlife and vegetation aspects that are particular to the Project location. Candidates should be located in Burnaby or Calgary.The duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Preparing and modifying the Environmental Design Plans, Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and Environmental Work Procedures (EWP) in cooperation with design and construction

  • Training personnel in implementing Environmental Design Plans and Environmental Protection Plans

  • Keeping design documents consistent with the DBA Schedule 6 requirements, Schedule 6 Table of Commitments and legislative/regulatory/contractual requirements

  • Obtaining all environmental approvals, authorizations, and permits in advance of the Project activity for which they are required, including preparation and submission of applications and related fees

  • Maintaining ongoing dialogue with agencies during the application processing period to ensure the design proposals are understood and to coordinate any required responses to agency questions and concerns to avoid unnecessary delays

  • Cooperating with the Communications Director, coordinating the necessary communications within the British Columbia Interior organization to ensure the requirements, terms and conditions of such approvals, authorizations and permits are understood by the relevant personnel

  • Implementing the QA/QC program for environmental permit compliance

  • Maintaining a Commitments, Conditions, Approvals, Authorizations, and Permits Ledger for auditing purposes

  • Training environmental design auditors and site inspectors in their duties and proper environmental protection practices (as part of the QA/QC approach to a self‑initiated design audit and site inspection programs)

  • Ensuring that the Environmental Effects Monitoring Plan is implemented, that the results are analyzed and reported to senior management for any required action, and that any follow‑up design audits and site inspections are conducted in a timely fashion

  • Inspecting subcontractors' activities and record keeping requirements, including scheduling and conducting internal audits and inspections

  • Reviewing and approving audit and inspection reports and NCRs


  • Bachelor's degree in a science curriculum related to the assigned discipline

  • Appropriately Qualified Professional in Wildlife & Vegetation (R.P.Bio)

  • 10+ years of related work experience

  • Proficiency in various computer software applications typically used within the assigned discipline is required

  • Requires a demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills

  • Thorough understanding of all environmental legislation (federal & provincial)

  • Knowledge of local environmental aspects to the British Columbia Interior Region

  • Experience working on linear design-build projects
