The Computer System Optimization Architect will analyze and optimize computer systems to maximize the performance of specific workloads. The Architect works within a small team of computer professionals to maximize performance. The candidate will learn the intricacies of hardware and software facets of a computer system; researching and implementing changes to increase performance, developing test plans to evaluate the effectiveness of modifications, and documenting the procedures and results of the test plans. Candidates will present their findings and discuss the efficacy of performance-modifying options with team members.


  • Minimum Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical, Software, or Computer Engineering and 15+ years of relevant experience

  • Candidate must have a minimum of a DoD TS security clearance.


The Computer System Optimization Architect must have experience in the following areas:


oUse understanding of computer system hardware interactions to determine platform bottlenecks.

§Computer system hardware components include

·Compute servers,

·Storage array systems,

·Backplane architectures,

·Network switching equipment and

·Routing equipment.

oUnderstand and interpret results of hardware analysis tests

oDetermine and create workloads to task various hardware elements of the system


oFunctionally decompose complex software systems.

§Software system components include

·VMWare vSphere, vSAN and ESXi virtualization technologies;

·Linux operating systems including RHEL, CentOS, and Ubuntu;

·Multithreading, parallel processing and containerization technologies;

·Custom application software

oAnalyze software bottlenecks

oDetermine behavioral impact of virtualized environments on software


oUnderstand the effect of network communications and protocols on system performance.

oAnalyze communication methods, security protocols, encryption, IPSec, bandwidth, latency, MTU size, packet loss, and redundancy on system performance

oAnalyze the effect of network services including DNS, DHCP, IPSec, and Routing Protocols on system performance

•Security Controls

oAnalyze the effect of security controls implemented through the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Secure Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) methods on system performance


oResearch configurations for hardware and software to improve performance

oImplement, debug, and validate configuration changes from a performance perspective

oIdentify new hardware or software options that would benefit the system


oDocument test procedures that allow reproducibility by a non-experienced user

oWrite analyses of various hardware and software options for future systems


Good written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required.

Additionally, a demonstrated proficiency operating in a Linux environment and the utilization of the command line interface (CLI) are required.

Strong background in Computer Engineering is preferred.
