Job Description:

Parsons is currently seeking a Vertical Transportation Engineer with experience in building and facility design. In this position, the VT Engineer will support an overall team to execute multidisciplinary facility designs culminating in the preparation of contract documents and construction drawings.

What You'll Be Doing:

Completes a variety of assignments such as developing, analyzing and/or reviewing vertical transportation drawings, specifications, reports, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes

Able to attend meetings with design personnel both virtual and in-person

Be client-facing and able to coordinate and communicate design aspects of VT systems. Possess strong people management and leadership skills coupled with excellent verbal and written communication abilities

Has solid and demonstrable understanding of elevators, escalators, and moving walkways including associated codes, standards, and industry practices

Coordinates design among various disciplines including structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical, communications, and similar VT-interfacing disciplines

Prepares standard engineering calculations, white papers, material quality takeoffs, estimates, and other associated design documentation

Conducts site surveys, inspections, and as-built reviews as part of facility rehabilitation and renewals

Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents

Performs engineering support to construction by reviewing vendor submittals, respond to request for information (RFI), and executing design changes as required for client and/or construction changes

Performs site surveys of existing facilities for as-build generation, rehabilitation designs, and for construction support of new facilities. Adherence to a Zero-Incident safety goal is expected

Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer when required by statute or contract

Prepares material/equipment specifications and purchase requisitions; reviews supplier data; witnesses shop tests, assists with assessing supplier manufacturing capabilities

Reviews supplier drawing submittals and assists in performing technical bid analyses

Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

4-year degree with 7-10+ years of related experience

Experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in the elevator/escalator industry

Professional Engineer (PE) License is required, with the ability to obtain reciprocity and/or comity in additional states

Experience with industrial, transit, or commercial facilities is essential

Ability to develop performance specifications for all aspects of vertical transportation and direct the development of interfacing drawings

Experience reviewing and commenting on drawings electronically (i.e., PDF versions)

The use of BIM or other 3-D CAD and experience with scheduling software or file management software are a plus

Experience in the design and specification of a vertical transportation systems is essential

Candidate shall be capable of working in a self-directed manner with minimal oversight

Experience working with a design group of lower-level Engineers and CAD Designer/Drafters in the production of multiple projects or sub-tasks simultaneously

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

The use of BIM or other 3-D CAD and experience with scheduling software or file management software are a plus

Further experience in any of the following specialty areas is beneficial but not required: fire suppression systems, building management systems, supervisory control and data acquisition, and electrical power distribution
