Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Test Engineer to join our team!

Do you find yourself wanting to discover the breaking points of hardware/software and influence its quality? Do you have the art for discovering flaws in hardware/software and ability to write detailed test steps for reproducing bugs or validating requirements? We are looking for a motivated test engineer with attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills to perform quality assurance/testing activities for complex hardware/software systems. Job responsibilities include creating test cases, performing testing activities, and conducting onsite customer-witnessed acceptance testing for product releases. The test case documentation will be used by customers and personnel to use during testing, maintaining, and training others on our software and hardware products. Other job responsibilities include supporting integrated program support and other activities related to the full product life cycle.

The ideal candidate should have a knowledge of networking protocols and experience with testing client-server applications, Linux-based software, and embedded hardware products. The candidate should also be able to estimate, prioritize, plan, coordinate, and execute testing activities; create detailed, comprehensive test plans and procedures; identify, record, and track defects found during testing; perform thorough regression testing after defects have been fixed; and provide solid release documentation for our customers.

Our group is working on industry-leading Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technologies and are setting new standards for what is possible in the field of DPI and have some of the best and the brightest in the industry working on our team. Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with integrated product teams to determine the features and acceptance criteria for a product release

  • Develop comprehensive test cases providing traceability to product features and proving the acceptance criteria has been met

  • Able to work under tight deadlines to deliver test cases on schedule

  • Participates in all aspects of testing, including functional, integration, regression, load/performance, system, security, and user acceptance testing

  • Collaborates and coordinates with leads to communicate scheduling risks, defects and issues found during testing

  • Reports test progress, coverage, defect metrics, and overall assessment to the team leads

  • Performs root cause analysis and provides detailed steps for reproducing defects

  • Leads/Participates in onsite customer-witnessed acceptance testing

  • Sets up test environments to include installing software packages on Linux platforms or installing/configuring hardware/networking components

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Top Secret Security Clearance with Polygraph is required

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related engineering, technical, or scientific discipline preferred - will consider work experience in lieu of a degree

  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience and training commensurate with computer science, computer engineering, quality assurance curriculums preferred

  • 8+ years of professional experience in Quality Assurance/Testing

  • Professional experience with agile development and test processes

  • Strong knowledge and experience using Linux systems via the command line

  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong understanding of the OSI Model and TCP/IP protocols and experience analyzing network packets using Wireshark

  • Experience testing and debugging Client/Server Web-based applications

Desired:

  • Experience with scripting or automation test languages such as Python

  • Experience deploying, configuring, and using Virtual Machine environments (VMware, vagrant/libvirt)

  • Experience configuring, troubleshooting, and performance testing networking devices (switches, routers, etc)

  • Knowledge of layer 2 and above network protocols and Wireshark

Position will be based primarily at the Parsons office in Centreville, VA or Charlotte, NC

Salary Range:

$96,400.00 - $168,700.00
