Job Description:

Ready to advance your education and have the opportunity to work on large scale engineering projects? Parsons Infrastructure is seeking motivated engineering students with an interest in bridge structures for a summer 2023 intern position. The intern will gain exposure to the production of drawings and calculations for the design of highway and rail bridge structures. The position is located in a downtown Chicago office of over 100 employees, close to public transportation and the Metra commuter rail stations.

We need interns who are versatile, enthusiastic to work in highly flexible, team-oriented environments, who have exceptional communication, analytical and organizational skills

In this role, under direction of a degreed engineer, you will perform a variety of basic engineering support assignments requiring a fundamental knowledge of design/drafting standards, practices, and techniques. The co-op student at this level typically takes engineering notes, specifications, rough sketches, etc., and formalizes them into working calculations and drawings. Assignments develop a practical knowledge of tools and conventions required to develop structural engineering designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Use Bentley MicroStation CAD software to develop and refine sketches, exhibits and structural plan sheets.

  • Use structural analysis software tools to establish member forces, stresses and deflections for various types of bridge and retaining wall structures.

  • Check the design of structural members for conformance to the AASHTO or AREMA codes governing design of highway or rail bridge structures.

  • Use spreadsheet tools in developing cost and quantity estimates from structural plan sheets.

Qualifications:

  • Civil Engineering students nearing completion of undergraduate studies, or students currently enrolled in graduate studies are encouraged to apply. Students should have completed courses such as structural analysis, steel or concrete design, geotechnical engineering, etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (proficiency using formulas, pivot tables, etc.)

Salary Range:

$20.38 - $35.67
