Parsons is seeking a Geologist to join our environmental team in Chicago and provide critical support for our growing portfolio of projects across multiple states.

We are looking for a Geologist who can leverage their knowledge to effectively apply geological theories, practices, and company policies to contribute to the success of our projects.
Geologist, Chicago, IL
In this role you will compile and compute a variety of data. You may analyze test data, develop or prepare descriptive charts, figures, or matrices; test specifications; or make recommendations regarding these items. Our geologists at this level are qualified professionals, proficient in utilizing most of the relevant theories and practices of the discipline. Assignments involve application of computer software (including spreadsheets, CAD, aquifer test analysis, etc.), as well as computer modeling of groundwater flow patterns. This position is based in Chicago area and willingness to travel to field sites in different states is expected (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan).
Responsibilities:
Performs various project related field and office tasks requiring the application of standard environmental principles and practices.
Independently conducts and completes all components of field work related media sampling including but not limited to soil, soil gas, surface water, groundwater, sediment; monitoring well development; low-flow groundwater sampling; soil gas sampling; monitoring well slug testing; soil and rock borehole logging; excavation oversight; contractor oversight.
Responsible for the application of and conformance with company and client health and safety programs while performing or overseeing tasks.
Assist in the preparation of project planning and task documentation including safety assessments, scope of work document, field task summary documents, file management.
Assists in the geological mapping and in performing basic geologic analyses and interpretation.
Analyzes and interprets geological data, which may include hydrogeology and/or hydrogeochemistry.
Analyzes and interprets environmental sample analysis results within the context of the geological setting.
Describes and classifies soils and rocks with accuracy (collection / logging of soil / boring logs).
Prepares geologic maps and cross sections, which may include potentiometric surface maps and hydrographs.
Develops materials and assists in completing reports on finished field work.
Direct experience with the preparation of Phase I ESAs and subsurface investigations (Phase IIs), including data compilation.
Excellent communication and technical writing skills required in preparation of different stages of environmental reports and correspondence to state agencies.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Qualifications:
4-year degree in Geology or related field
3+ years of direct environmental consulting experience or related work experience
Proficiency in various computer software applications typically used geological analyses
Familiarity with related environmental rules and regulations is preferred
Requires a demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills
Thorough understanding of all environmental rules and regulations
Must be willing to assist Senior Project Managers with other reporting and sampling activities.
Working knowledge of software typically used in environmental analyses and reporting is required.
OSHA HAZWOPER 40-HR TRAINING.
Working knowledge of Illinois state regulations (IEPA) is a must. Indiana and/or Michigan environmental regulatory programs, IDEM / EGLE is a plus.

Salary Range:
$44,600.00 - $78,100.00
