Job Description:

Space Ground System Solutions, a Parsons company, has an immediate full-time opening for a Cloud Software Engineer to work either out of Colorado Springs, CO, or Alexandria, VA. The position will be responsible for team leadership and individual contributions to development of ground software for satellite ground and ground-to-space networks. As an Software Engineer, you will lead the team in architecture and design, implementation, agile team rituals, and individual contribution. Development and deployment takes place in a government-approved hybrid cloud context, growing today from a Linux- and AWS-centric I/PaaS environment. A successful applicant will have an established record of growing responsibility delivering secure applications and services in a DevOps environment, with experience measuring and delivering performance against service level agreements, managing and maturing a secure software baseline, and integrating end-to-end test in a zero-downtime service delivery.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and Develop reliable, cloud-hosted software services and components to schedule, manage, transport, and integrate satellite ground system and ground-to-space communications capabilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver 12-factor software components and services

  • Design, develop, and deliver in an automated manner, environments into AWS as needed by the RDT

  • Contribute to delivering, maintaining, and documenting DevSecOps capabilities supporting your own development

  • Adapt and integrate contemporary software to compose, mature, and integrate legacy capabilities and interface

  • Maintain a cloud and security mindset throughout the life cycle of the solution

  • Research areas of improvements and design/implement enhancements working with other teams across organizational boundaries

  • Create best practices for cloud operations and be consultative to project teams throughout duration of a project

  • Aid with maintenance and integration of on-premises capabilities include infrastructure automation in a secure lab

  • Obtain and maintain government clearances, working at times in secure government labs and facilities to integrate and deliver capabilities on-premise

  • Travel, up to 20%.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must have and be able to maintain a DoD Top Secret (TS/SCI) security clearance. Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • 5+ years of software engineering/development experience with one or more industrial grade programming languages (Python, C/C++, Java), deployed into commercial cloud I/PaaS

  • Configuring/using build automation tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, etc.)

  • Configuration management using Git, BitBucket, etc.

  • Experience with the Amazon CLI

  • Automating cloud topology deployment, configuration, and operation using Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Bash, PowerShell, etc.

  • Experience with designs consuming cloud services/technologies, specifically on AWS (EC2, EBS, ELB, KMS, IAM, STS, CloudWatch, S3, VPC, security groups)


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other relevant Engineering field from an accredited university or equivalent combination of formal education and experience is preferred, or demonstrated equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Concepts like distributed systems, multi-tenant systems, network protocols, network security, SSL, PKIX, routing, and load balancing.

  • Implementation of controls from NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, ICD 503, RMF, DoD ILs.

  • Small-scale PKI: Certificates, LDAP, NACL

  • Implementation of continuous test methodology and use of continuous test frameworks and tools

  • Experience with Satellite Ground Systems, Ground System Operations, or Satellite Operations

  • Software configuration management tools (examples: ClearCase, GIT, Mercurial, etc.).

  • Multi-operating systems - Linux and Windows 2012/2016

  • OS security involving Active Directory, Windows networking, Group policies, DNS, PKI, automated policy assessment and enforcement
