Parsons is seeking an Orbital Analyst to join the team in Dahlgren, VA. What some may consider a small oversight can cause a major work problem.   • Engineering operations orbital analysis role will perform space defense and satellite collision avoidance

  • Provide expertise to solve various operational orbital mechanics problems and process data for orbit states and predictions

  • Coordinate and integrate relevant information and findings across multiple functional areas to develop and deliver products enabling customer space situational awareness and decision making

  • Perform conjunction assessment, proximity operations, and other various technical tasks related to orbit analysis

  • Participate in planning and execution of operational procedures as well as process improvements used to support internal & external customers

Required Skills:

  • Four or more years of space-related experience involving Space Domain Awareness, satellite catalog maintenance, orbital analysis, and collision avoidance

  • Familiarity with Space Force's Astrodynamics Support Workstation software or similar tools

  • Ability to apply orbital mechanics and astrodynamics knowledge to operations, to include orbit determination and maintenance, general and special perturbation-based data and formats, orbit decay, and orbital maneuvers for station keeping and change of station

  • Understanding of space object tracking sensors, networks and data, to include capabilities and limitations

  • Ability to create short programs in Perl or other scripting languages to automate data processing

  • Familiarity with Linux-based OS, particularly Red Hat or Fedora

  • General understanding of orbit determination methods and prediction, and orbital state data use

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint)

  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance

  • Ability to travel 10%

Preferred/Desired Skills:

  • Knowledgeable in Cyber Security in DoD environment

  • Experience developing, updating, and maintaining Microservice and Kubernetes cloud service software

  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance with current SCI


  • BS degree in Physics, Engineering or Mathematics, Aerospace, or Space Operation and typically 5+ years of related professional experience

Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a security clearance.
