SENIOR SCIENTIST - DENVER , COLORADO
Under direction of a project geophysicist and project manager, a geophysicist performs a variety of independent geophysical data acquisition and processing assignments requiring a fundamental knowledge of geophysical practices and techniques.The geophysicist's primary responsibilities at this level will be using geophysical and GPS equipment to conduct quality control tests and collect digital geophysical data and process such data to support remedial investigation or removal action projects at formerly used defense sites with potential unexploded ordnance contamination.The geophysicist will also lead the field component of geophysical investigations and manage multiple geophysical data collection teams.
Performing a variety of field and office tasks requiring the application ofcomplexscientific principles and fundamental theories
-Providing technical leadership and guidance to lower-level Scientists and Technicians
-Assisting with preparing proposals and cost estimates
-Managing subcontractors on a field site
-Managing tasks or small projects of small or moderate scope and complexity involving his/her technical expertise
-Acquiring EM61-MK2, G-858, MetalMapper, and TEMTADS2x2 data
-Processing EM61-MK2, G-858, MetalMapper, and TEMTADS2x2 data using Geosoft's Oasis Montaj software
-Interpreting geophysical data collected with the instruments listed above
-Tracking QC information in a Microsoft Access-format data base
-Performing field and office tasks requiring the application of geophysical principles and fundamental theories
-Writing geophysical sections of work plans and reports for CERCLA RIand remediation projects
-Performing anomaly reacquisition using EM61-MK2, G-858, and Real Time Kinematic GPS sensors
-Conducting or monitoring daily quality control tests of equipment and methods and documenting test results
Four-year degree in geophysics, geology, or related field
At least 5-10 years of munitions response geophysics work experience
Good written and oral communication skills
Experience with field geophysical data acquisition using the EM61-MK2, G-858, MetalMapper, or TEMTADS 2x2 sensors
Experinece with field geophysical data acquistiion using RTK GPS equipment
Some overtime work required at times
Experience with Geosoft's Oasis Montaj geophysical data processing software
Experience using MS Access databases
US Citizenship or Permanent Residence required ( government project work)
Proficiency in various computer software applications typically used within the assigned discipline is required. Also requires a demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills and a thorough understanding of all environmental rules and regulations.
4-year degree in Geology or related field
5-10 years of related work experience
Certification as a professional Geologist is preferred
Proficiency in various computer software applications typically used geological analyses
Familiarity with related environmental rules and regulations is preferred
Requires a demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills
Thorough understanding of all environmental rules and regulations
