Principal Drainage Engineer – Transportation Infrastructure
Parsons is hiring a Principal Drainage Engineer to support our Critical Infrastructure group delivering transportation based projects, including national design-build and traditional local work.
This position can be based preferably in Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City or Las Vegas, but has the flexibility to be based in any major US city where Parsons has an active office.
Travel will be required when predicated for client and project meetings.

In this role: you will be involved in a team engaged at a national level leading the next generation of drainage design technology and processes in our technical community . You will be engaged in all aspects of transportation infrastructure drainage engineering and design, including but not limited to:
Hydraulic and hydrologic studies
River and bridge hydraulics
FEMA floodplain studies
Urban storm drain design
Final design level plan production
You will work closely with other project disciplines, including roadway design, track design, structural design, 3D modeling, landscape architecture, maintenance of traffic, and more. You will also integrate with construction groups to perform pre-bid engineering, estimates and quantity calculations. You will be in a lead design role responsible for implementing quality procedures including checking of engineering drawings, calculations, and reports to assure the design and any technical reports are accurate, professional and meet all requirements. Strong drainage experience on transportation-based projects, including design-build projects, is required.
Serve as an engineering design lead for all aspects of stormwater and drainage design on transportation based infrastructure projects, including roads, highways, rail, transit and airports. Plan, direct, and supervise the work of the project drainage design team.
Provide input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
Responsible for the creation of final design plans, studies and reports for all aspects of the drainage and stormwater design needs on a project.
Lead other engineers and design personnel in technical excellence and growth in the Quality Improvement Process. Contribute to the company Hydrology & Hydraulics Technical Organization.
Provide technical consultations and reviews for interdisciplinary analytical studies, analyses, and design.
Ensure compliance of design with all applicable codes, regulations, and project requirements, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer when required by statute or contract.
Prepare design specifications; review shop drawings; prepare O&M manuals; develop standard operating procedures; conduct surveys, studies and site investigations.
Maintain affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies and practice.
Assist budget estimates, staffing requirements, and other administrative and technical needs per project scope and schedule.
4-year degree in civil engineering is required .
Professional Engineer (PE) Registration is required.
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification, and associated experience, is preferred.
10 years or more of related work experience focused on drainage and stormwater design is required.
Strong experience on highway and rail design-build projects is highly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to perform in a lead capacity, excellent written and oral communication skills, and familiarity of industry practice and regulations is required.
Thorough knowledge of commonly used drainage and stormwater technology, and the ability to select, train and apply the appropriate engineering software to each project is required.
High level proficiency with applicable stormwater engineering software, including but not limited to: HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, Bentley InRoads Storm & Sanitary, Bentley StormCAD/CivilStorm, Aquaveo Watershed Modeling System (WMS), NRCS WinTR-55, EPA Storm Water Management Model (SWMM and variants of it), and ESRI ArcGIS.
High-level proficiency with CAD and modeling software, including but not limited to: Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer and Power InRoads. Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil3D is also preferred.
