Are you interested in working as a principal geophysicist performing a variety of independent geophysical planning, data processing and interpretation tasks? This position is under the direction of a project manager, requiring a fundamental knowledge of geophysical practices and techniques. The principal geophysicist's primary responsibilities at this level are:

-Contributing to proposals for contracts or task orders requiring geophysical work,

-Planning the geophysical approach and preparing to the geophysical sections of the work plan,

-Assigning staff to perform the data acquisition and analysis for the project,

-Providing technical oversight and direction during the field work phase of the project,

-Performing a limited amount of field work, typically at project startup,

-Working with other technical staff performing related tasks on the project (i.e. intrusive investigation of geophysical anomalies),

-Tracking Quality Control information in a Microsoft Access-format database,

-Reviewing and delivering geophysical data packages to the customer,

-Reporting quality and production status to the Project Manager,

-Preparing the geophysical sections of interim and final reports,

-Mentoring more junior-level scientist and technicians,

-Traveling as needed to project sites, planning meetings and industry workshops.

Most of the geophysical projects at Parsons are related to Munitions Response. Parsons performs many remedial investigations, feasibility studies, pilot projects, and removal actions. The principal geophysicists may take the lead on any type of project requiring geophysics, including environmental remediation projects that do not involve munitions.

Required:

Four-year degree in geophysics, geology, or related field

At least 10 years of munitions response geophysics work or other related experience

Good written and oral communication skills

Experience with field geophysical data acquisition using the EM61-MK2, G-858, Metal Mapper, MPV, and TEMTADS 2x2 sensors

Experience with field geophysical data acquisition using RTK GPS equipment

Experience with Geosoft's Oasis Montaj geophysical data processing software including the UX-Analyze modules

Experience using MS Access databases

Significant travel required (20-40%). Some trips will last multiple months.

Some field work will be performed in physically challenging terrain, vegetation, and weather conditions. Applicants must be physically capable of performing rigorous geophysical field work
