Job Description:

We are adding a Launching Superintendent / Construction Manager to our team in Edmonton Canada, to support the Edmonton Valley Line West LRT project. In this role, you will be responsible for the segmental bridge construction for this complex, highly visible, billion dollar program. You will provide day to day management and coordination for all the construction work for this portion of the project, having the authority within construction team to provide direction and leadership for all segment construction. Parsons is a proven designer-builder-developer and are respected by our clients as an organization with strong technical and communication skills, solid project delivery and excellent performance.

The Edmonton Valley Line West LRT project is a 14-km long line extension of the soon to be in service Valley Line in downtown Edmonton, Alberta. The scope of work generally includes complex staging; new facilities such as stations, OMSF, storage facility, and stops; elevated guideway; new structures; systems and communications installation; trackwork; testing and commissioning; and all other civil works associated with the scope. It is the first LRT extension project using low-floor vehicle technology in Western Canada and will be a landmark LRT endeavour. The unique project challenges, such as cold weather climate and integration with an in-service LRT line, offers team members future career opportunities in the robust transit portfolio of the City of Edmonton and other similar programs across Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Construction is in full compliance with the Project Agreement, including matters relating to quality, safety, environment, and life cycle performance

  • Support and contribute to the development of the Construction Management Plan, and ensuring compliance to such plan through the Project

  • Manage the Construction teams and Construction process to ensure the Infrastructure is constructed in accordance with the Construction Schedule

  • Coordinate with the Design Manager to jointly ensure constructability of the segmental bridge design

  • Work with other senior construction leaders to ensure the design and construction are implemented in a coordinated fashion meeting Project Requirements and the Project vision;

  • Ensure the construction is in accordance to the design and that design changes are not implemented without the engineer of record’s prior approval and City’s acceptance

  • Plan, coordinate, communicate with other project groups to implement accepted traffic accommodations and control measures during construction

  • Support project communication by supplying appropriate information to effectively communicate construction to the general public and impacted stakeholders

  • Provide Project closeout documentation related to design as constructed

  • During the Construction Period, be physically located and present all Business Days of every week in the Greater Edmonton Area

  • At all times throughout the Construction Period, be available to fulfill the full extent of his or her role

  • Assist in training and recruiting qualified individuals to be employed on the use of Launching Girder during the construction of the elevated guide way on the project

  • Understand and implement the Kinematics required for the advancement and use of the Launching girder during the segmental erection of the elevated guideway.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of work planning to complete the project in a safe and timely manner.

  • During segmental erection process provide day to day direction to craft employees and field engineering staff on all Launching girder operations such as self-launching movements and limitations, Post tensioning operations and segment erection to complete the task safely and on schedule.

  • Track material quantities on site during construction to ensure availability and order as required.

  • Assist in creating and reviewing the daily and weekly look ahead schedules required for the Guideway portion of the project and identify any potential conflict with other operations on the project.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree in construction-related field (or equivalent construction-related work experience), as well as 15+ years of experience in field, self-perform construction for large, complex structural and civil structures.

  • Experience with managing construction for large concrete structures (Bridges, Elevated Guideways for Transit). Experience with Span by Span Segmental Bridge Erection.

  • Must have direct experience performing in a similar role as outlined above, for a similar transportation projects in an urban environment, in Canada or internationally.

  • Must have demonstrated leadership ability in managing large complex multidisciplinary construction teams on projects valued over $1BCAD and achieving project objectives.

  • Must be local or travel to Edmonton Alberta Canada for the duration of the Project.

  • Experience working on a large integrated joint venture infrastructure project is preferred.
