Some of our recent impactful projects in Western Canada include Highway 1 Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4, Southwest Calgary Ring Road, Regina Bypass, and Highway 99 / 32 Avenue Interchange Improvements just to name a few.

Parsons is now hiring a Supervising Transportation Engineer who can apply advanced roads and highway engineering techniques and supervise a team of Engineers and Designers. We need our engineers to be versatile, enthusiastic to work in highly flexible, team oriented environments and who have exceptional communication, analytical, management, and leadership skills.

In this role you will supervise a group of five or more engineers and design personnel, usually in one discipline, by directing technical engineering assignments and coordinating project staffing. You will help to define scope of work, design criteria, schedule, standards, and procedures for project assignments. Determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Review work produced to ensure that applicable codes, standards, and procedures are followed, and quality is acceptable.

  • Monitor productivity and technical proficiency of assigned personnel. Makes staffing assignments and reassignments as project needs arise.

  • Conduct performance evaluations, take corrective action as necessary, recommend promotions and salary actions, and recommend training and development for assigned personnel.

  • Provide technical direction, making decisions and/or obtaining additional technical staff assistance as the situation warrants. This may include obtaining the services of consultants.

  • Promote technical excellence on the project, including furthering the Quality Improvement Process.

  • Ensure that adequate checking is performed in accordance with discipline checking policy and procedures. Ensure that discipline design work is coordinated with project staff and Engineers from other disciplines by maintaining clear and frequent communications.

  • Advise engineering and project management regarding any problem areas, staffing requirements, delays in production, scope changes, or other events which could affect project completion and/or profitability.

  • Initiate and/or review change order requests for additions, deletions, or changes to the original scope of work.

  • Recommend design methods, equipment use, etc., for discipline standards.

  • Supervise the production of project drawings and design calculations.

  • Maintain affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.

  • Serve as a Responsible Member in meeting Permit to Practice requirements.

  • Recommend and prepares technical papers.

  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field) and 12+ years of related work experience.

  • Registered as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), or eligible for registration, with Canadian provincial engineering regulatory bodies.

  • Experience working on BC Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure, Alberta Transportation, Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, or Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation projects is an asset.

  • Proven ability to perform in a lead capacity.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

  • Thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are required.

  • Must also possess a thorough knowledge of current technology and be able to select and apply appropriate engineering software for use on project.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) from Project Management Institute is an asset.
