Parsons Corporation Senior Project Manager - Environmental Construction and Remediation in Faro, Yukon Territory

Parsons is hiring an experienced Senior Project Manager with a desire to work on creating innovative, practical solutions to various environmental problems at northern mine sites. As part of a select team, the successful candidate will manage environmental assessment, construction/remediation projects of varying size and complexity, which will include supervision of junior professional staff and technical staff involved in investigations, budget control, subcontractor oversight, client liaison, and document preparation and review. In addition, the Senior Project Manager will also mentor and provide technical support to more junior staff, as required. As much of the assignment will involve travel and work in remote areas, the successful candidate must be able to act independently, exercise sound judgment, and have a good sense of humor. A diverse background in environmental management, environmental construction, site assessment, remediation, risk assessment, and field sampling (soils, groundwater, and surface water) will be considered an asset. In this role, you will be located at our Calgary office, but will be expected to travel into the Yukon territory regularly to support environmental and construction projects at the mine site.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Prepares correspondence, written reports and presentations (for regulators/clients/subcontractors and senior personnel).

  • Manages inter-disciplinary teams of professionals and supporting labor categories.

  • Integrates competing and/or conflicting elements into the planning and execution processes so that project requirements flow smoothly.

  • Acts as the Company representative with the client and subcontractors during work execution.

  • Negotiates changes to the scope of work with the client and subcontractors.

  • Follows up on instructions and commitments associated with projects.

  • May participate in negotiations with regulatory agencies and in public meetings in support of clients.

  • Works with other managers, project staff, and discipline leads to develop budgets, schedules, and plans for the various elements of a project.

  • Works with the project staff to devise and execute action plans to rectify potential cost overruns or delays, or to accommodate significant changes to the scope of work.

  • Promotes technical and commercial excellence on the projects through the application of Quality Assurance processes.

  • Monitors and reports to management on the progress of all project activity, including significant milestones, and any conditions, which could affect project cost or schedule.

  • Candidate must be willing to travel to the Yukon territory as needed.

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • 4-year degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Geology or related technical/business field. An advanced degree is an asset.

  • 15+ years of experience in the environmental industry performing technical and project management duties.

  • Must have extensive experience with environmental remediation, construction, and related projects (Abatement, demolition, water treatment, etc...)

  • Knowledgeable of Canadian and construction industry practices and regulations.

  • Knowledgeable of current technologies and how those can be effectively utilized on projects.

  • Professional designation (or the ability to obtain one) as a professional geologist, engineer, or biologist is desired.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Good organizational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments simultaneously.

  • Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in various elemental conditions including rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.

  • Proficient computer skills -Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) are a must.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg.

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
