Job Description:

Are you ready for a challenge that will keep you on the cutting edge of cyber-security while supporting multidisciplinary mission assurance / vulnerability assessments on critical mission systems? Parsons provides comprehensive cyber security expertise for national defense programs and is seeking employees with an eye for detail, a drive to succeed, and a passion for ensuring mission success.

The Apprentice Red Cyber Space Operator is an integral member of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Red Assessment Team. The DoD Red Team historically conducted analytical and physical red team assessments. The Advance Red cyber operations is the newest component of the DoD Red Team and conducts threat emulative cyber assessments to further the goals of the DoD Red Team. The advance red cyber team compliments these capabilities with a cyber-component that provides a more holistic DoD Red Team assessment. Incorporating a cyber-assessment capability into the DoD Red Team allows for better emulation of a sophisticated multidisciplinary adversarial campaign. This synergistic method provides the DoD Red Team’s customers with a holistic, realistic, and actionable assessment of an adversary’s ability to identify, deny, degrade, or compromise critical DoD capabilities or exfiltration data. The Apprentice Red Cyber Operator will help build the organization’s red cyber capability.

Assessment teams may deploy to high threat but permissive environments anywhere in the world. CONUS and OCONUS travel for durations of up to two weeks per trip.

Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance eligibility required.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Emulates a potential adversary’s cyber reconnaissance, exploitation techniques, and attack capabilities against a targeted mission, system, network, component, or capability for red cyber assessments. Shall be capable of:

  • Executing computer network operations against official U.S. government organizations worldwide for the purpose of strengthening information system security, identifying potential intrusions and vulnerabilities, and recommending mitigation strategies.

  • Expertly utilizes offensive computer network expertise to emulate a potential adversary's cyber reconnaissance and exploitation techniques and attack capabilities against a targeted mission, system, network, component, or capability on behalf of senior DoD stakeholders.

  • Demonstrating and apply expert knowledge of offensive cyber concepts and methods such as passive and active reconnaissance, infiltration, internal network pivoting and exploration, and data exfiltration in order to emulate adversarial actions and attacks and expose vulnerabilities when conducting red cyber assessments.

  • Maintaining operational, technical, and authoritative situational awareness during threat emulation-based exploitation and operations.

  • Performing remote operations from DTRA HQ at Ft. Belvoir, VA, and/or travel to and perform operations on-site at various CONUS/OCONUS sites.

  • Producing and present formal and informal reports, briefings, and perspectives on adversarial behavior and attacks against target systems, technologies, operations, and missions provided to customers such as the Office of the Secretary of Defenses, Combatant Commands, General Officers, Field Officers, and Senior Executive Service levels.

  • Writing high-level technical reports and develop briefings documenting findings, concerns, trends, and implications for senior DoD officials and customers enabling personnel to consider the most significant technical and high-level factors when committing DoD resources to mitigate identified vulnerabilities and threats to critical national assets, networks, and systems.

  • Building and developing assessment specific tools to better emulate adversarial threats and attacks and demonstrate and exploit vulnerabilities to sensitive mission critical networks and systems.

  • Analyzing operational TTPs and creates tools and scripts to automate and expand capabilities and advance red cyber operational processes.

  • Mentoring Red Cyber Operators in doing the same.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in a Computer Science, Computer Forensics, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline and the following years of experience:

  • BS and 5-7 years of experience

  • MS and 3-5 years of experience

  • Ph.D. and 0-2 years of experience

Will consider relevant number of years of operational experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Possess a minimum of operational experience as listed above in the military, other Federal Government, or comparable civilian position in Cyberspace Operations (Offensive Cyberspace Operations, Defensive Cyberspace Operations, and Cyberspace Exploitation), Cyber Red Team, Penetration Testing, and/or Information Operations (IO)

  • Possess IAT Level III as defined and described in DoDD 8570.01, 8570.01-M, 8140.01-03 and as amended.

  • Possess Red Team Apprentice Course (RTAC) and Certified Red Team Operator (CRTO) or ability to obtain certifications within 180 days of hire.

  • Desired certifications include: Red Team Apprentice Course (RTAC), Red Team Journeyman Course (RTJC), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), GIAC Exploit Researcher and Advanced Penetration Tester (GXPN), and GIAC Penetration Tester (GPEN)

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Possess a minimum of five years demonstrated experience using open source tools and operating systems or hold a comparable Linux certification

  • Skills and expertise in penetration testing, red teaming, Kali Linux, Cobalt Strike, NMAP, Wireshark, Metasploit, Burp suite, Bloodhound, PowerShell Empire, Sqlmap, C, C++, Perl, and Python

  • Possess a working knowledge of computer network vulnerability/compliance analysis software.

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Possess expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) to prepare presentations, reports, and white papers.
