Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Biologist to join our team! In this role you will get to serve as a scientific advisor to the assigned customer training event and/or exercise lead planner
What You'll Be Doing:
Provides scientific and technical expertise to DoD personnel on prevention, protection from, response to, and recovery from biological warfare agents (BWA) threats or incidents.
Supports various DoD exercises, as well as any other training event where the focus is on BWAs.
Plans meetings, articulates BWA related information, responds to questions, and assists in building lab scenarios that capture the audience’s training objectives.
Provides guidance on safe handling and integration of agents into the scenario confines and elaborates on intelligence injects as needed regarding the specific agent.
Builds out the BWA lab and evaluates unit safety and sampling procedures while in the lab.
Serve as a SME on the following:
Biological warfare agents, their synthesis, exposure routes, signs, and symptoms, and their mode of transmission and detection equipment to include basic instrument maintenance, operational theory, and interpretation of instrument outputs / responses to both simulant and live biological agent challenges. Instruments will include currently fielded US DoD equipment such as real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), lateral flow immunochromatography (LFIC), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry.
Decontamination of biological warfare agents and the physical removal techniques utilized by US DoD personnel.
Respiratory protection to include air purifying respirators (APR), powered air purifying respirators (PAPR), canister function, break through, and proper respiratory PPE / IPT selection based established threat agent.
Familiar with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) / Individual Protective Technologies (IPT) to include knowledge of protective fabrics, to include permeation resistance to traditional and emerging threats.
Familiar with neutralization media application and evaluation utilizing US DoD specific solid and liquid decontaminants.
Provide authoritative advice and recommendations, as a recognized expert in BWA weapons and detection, on biological operational and S&T programs.
Provide on-site training, operational, scientific, and technical support to command sponsored technical training and exercises and other Joint Chief of Staff/theater sponsored exercises
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelors and 10+ years experience
Experience with the following:
Biosafety Level (BSL) laboratories to apply to exercises or training events conducted in laboratories based on the degree of the health-related risk associated with the work being conducted is highly desired is highly desired.
Minimum safe work practices, specially designed buildings, and safety equipment required to conduct work on infectious microorganisms and other biological hazards.
Nature of infectious agents, toxins, or other biological hazard, including their ability to cause disease and the transmissibility and pathogenicity, infectious dose, host range, epidemiology, specific laboratory activity or activities being performed, and the preventive medical countermeasures or effective treatment.
Engineering controls, including facility construction and design elements in the laboratory space, safety equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and biosafety cabinets, administrative controls, including specific access, training, and occupational medicine policies, and laboratory practices and procedures workers use when working in a BWA or BSL laboratory.
Scientific and technical expertise to identify, prevent, protect from, respond to, and recover from small and/or large-scale biological threats or incidents.
Providing insight regarding emergency response and program capabilities, including experience in the use of and application of BWA detectors and detection theory to characterize BWA threat agents and optimize response training, exercises, and incidents.
Biological weapons use and consequence management.
Practical application of CBRN-related skills, to include operating in contaminated environment and employment of CBRN PPE.
Laboratory equipment to demonstrate the manufacture of BWA.
Identifying BWA technological and threat trends, as a means to provide authoritative advice and recommendations to a response organization, leadership, units, in regard to BWA site exploitation planning and execution.
Knowledge in BWA design and manufacturing processes.
Must have a current Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret in the future.
