DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision, the Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) Trail Maintenance Worker will perform specialized semi-skilled work to assist in the execution of land rehabilitation and maintenance projects, land condition monitoring, and other assigned duties in support of Fort Bragg's Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) Program. This position is responsible for site preparation, installation of native plants and erosion control structures, trail maintenance/repair, seeding, soil/plant monitoring, off-limits marking, and vehicle/equipment maintenance. Employee may be required to dig, fill, or reshape soil with shovels, power augers, or hand equipment; construct objects with hand or power tools; measure plants and collect soil samples; load and off-load equipment and materials by hand or forklift; install fences, off-limits markers, and signs using picket pounders and other tools; apply seed mixes by hand or drill seeder; move plants and supplies by hand or on trailer; and conduct routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment; makes minor repair of trails, trail drainage and trail drainage structures and trail location marking. The LRAM Trail Maintenance Worker will also maintain vegetation on project sites including watering plants, installing and repairing plant protectors, re-establishing basins around plants, using common hand tools.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum one (1) year demonstrated relevant experience in the above described. Experience with 4WD, off-road driving, and towing trailers or implements. Ability to work under adverse field conditions (extreme temperatures, wind, blowing sand, etc.); Commercial Drivers License a plus. Experience working both independently and in a team. Ability to follow written directions and maintain written records. Ability to traverse rough terrain carrying loads of up to 50 lbs. Ability to work and learn on the job. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to operate 4x4 vehicles safely on rough trails/roads/terrain. Experience with operation of hand tools, power tools, and light equipment. Experience in Southeastern environments and/or on military installations, experience in construction techniques for erosion control in sandy soil and forest environments is desirable. Military experience is a plus.
This position consists of performing strenuous manual labor in sometimes extreme environmental conditions. Candidate must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to safely lift heavy objects, bend, climb, walk for long periods of time and perform physically challenging labor.
SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
US driver’s license and must pass MVR and be able to maintain legal driving privileges both on and off post.
Ability to successfully pass NAC-I (National Agency Check with Inquiries) investigation.
