Ready to take your engineering experience to the next level to work on complex Rail Systems construction projects. We’ve worked for almost every heavy rail transit authority in North America, and we currently hold contracts with WMATA, NYCT, PANYNJ, CTA, TTC, BART, SFMTA, MARTA, NJT, DART, MDTPW, and LACMTA. We have completed or are currently working on 23 major railroad and transit design-build projects over the last 20 years.
We are looking for mid and senior level construction field inspectors to support rail facility, systems installations and rail and transit structures. The rail systems include signal, track, power and communications. The facilities include passenger stations, train storage yards, train maintenance facilities as well as other transit and rail facilities. The structures include elevated train structures, tunnels and passenger platforms.
The position is located in the New York Area and will require significant time working in the field, with possible nighttime and/or weekend work.
Other duties may include:
Prepares daily reports and other documentation, as required by contract.
Verifies that only approved materials are incorporated in the work.
Collects, reviews and files Certificate of Compliance, MSDS, inspection tags and other information relevant to the materials used.
Coordinates work of subconsultants for surveying and material testing.
Recommends job safety practices and drafts safety reports.
Prepares quality control reports and recommends changes to procedures.
Reports on installed quantities to verify applications for payment and change order work.
Responds to the call backs in case of emergency at the project site.
Plans and coordinates all field inspection activities and reviews the work of Representatives to ensure compliance with job specifications.
Will prepare summary reports, respond to various problems of Representatives, authorize expenses and overtime, and assist Resident Engineers in completion of construction work in accordance with design.
2-year degree in a technical discipline or construction-related field, or a high school diploma and equivalent work experience, is required.
Minimum of 5+ years of related experience on construction field projects performing similar functions as outlined above, as well as formal certification from an independent organization, depending on type of inspection assignment. Experience with rail and transit projects preferred.
Construction safety training including OSHA 10/30
Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications, be totally familiar with construction-related processes related to area of assignment,
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; to follow oral and written instructions and prepare written messages and reports.
Capability to perform math calculation in order to prepare engineering calculations, graphs and charts. Proficiency with basic computer usage, knowledge of Microsoft Office, and internet search engines (like Google or equivalent) required.
Requires ability to climb ladders, inspect work above ground, and work in confined spaces.
