Parsons is seeking well qualified applicants for a Bioinformatics Analyst with the Genomics and Bioinformatics Department of the Biological Defense Research Directorate (BDRD). Headquartered in Fort Detrick, Maryland, BDRD is part of the Naval Medical Research Center. Their mission is to apply bioinformatics and cutting edge, high-throughput technologies such as genotypic and phenotypic expression profiling, biomarker characterization, bacteriophage science, etc. to the study of infectious diseases, biodefense, and enhanced global disease surveillance for early pathogen detection and response.
Support the mission needs utilizing programming skills in languages such as JAVA, PERL, PYTHON, and statistical software such as R.
Perform bioinformatic analysis on all samples, including genome assembly and annotation of genomes, if requested
Provide sequencing and bioinformatic assistance in support of epidemic/pandemic response for viruses and other pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2.
Support mission essential goals by utilizing skills in next generation sequencing and related platforms (MiSeq, NextSeq500, Ion Torrent/Ion S5, MinION, PacBio) as well as microarrays.
Provide reach back support for bioinformatics analysis.
Develop improved protocols for bioinformatics processes associated with high- throughput characterization.
Provide sequencing and bioinformatic analysis
Securely store data files and provide results to customer, and if requested, raw data files.
Excellent utilization of excellent verbal and writing communications skills, ability to think independently, and excellent problem-solving skills are essential.
Ability to travel internationally to potentially austere environments is essential.
Perform under deadlines and in austere environments is essential.
Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science (combined with experience or education in biology or bioinformatics), Computational Biology, or a closely related area.
5 years' hands-on experience in Bioinformatics.
Possess demonstrable, applied, multiyear experience in Computer Science, Genomics, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
Must adhere to legal, professional, and ethical codes concerning confidentiality and privacy.
Shall pass all criteria for a Secret security clearance.
Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a security clearance.
