Job Description:

Parsons is currently looking for a BSL-3 Laboratory Manager to support the Biological Defense Research Directorate (BDRD) within the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) in Frederick, MD. We are seeking a BSL-3 Lab Manager to support and facilitate biological research for the rapid detection of infectious diseases of global importance and the enhancement of global disease surveillance for early pathogen detection and response. This position resides at Fort Detrick in Fredrick, MD.Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory research projects including collection and organization of data.

  • Manage a BSL-3 laboratory, including training of other scientists, technicians, and support personnel, writing standard operating procedures/risk assessments, understanding BSL-3 facility requirements, and managing BSAT inventory.

  • Write standard operating procedures/risk assessments.

  • Manage all aspects of equipment preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.

  • Perform market research and sole source justifications for laboratory equipment and supplies.

  • Understand BSL-3 facility requirements and managing BSAT inventory.

  • Develop improved protocols for wet lab processes associated with high throughput characterization.

  • Develop technical reports, summaries, and protocols.

  • Present data at national and international conferences, symposia or meetings.

  • Maintain clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks; record detailed observations about experiments.

  • Maintain compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures.

  • Provide quality control, trouble shooting and maintenance of specialized reagents and equipment.

  • Maintain supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean.

  • Work is to be performed on a government installation. The normal work week is Monday - Friday 0800 to 1630.

  • Attend Safety and Biosafety meetings in a support role with completed detail reports to higher command groups.

  • Assist FSAP PI and all command groups with federal and DoD regulated inspections.

  • Assist in HR needs between NMRC and USAMRIID commands.

  • Responsible for placing maintaining equipment and facility compliance by submitting work orders thru appropriate offices with follow up reports to command groups.

Basic Qualifications

  • The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level.

  • MS in a biological science field.

  • 10 years of practical experience conducting microbiology/molecular biology techniques in a BSL-3 laboratory is considered essential.

  • Must possess a practical knowledge of basic and applied research and have the ability to perform competent research.

  • At least 5 years of deep experience working with BSAT and a thorough understanding of Federal and DoD BSAT regulations/instructions.

  • Experience working on methods for bacterial growth and detection of bio-threat agents.

  • Minimum Experience required: minimum of 5 years practical experience conducting microbiology/molecular biology techniques in a BSL-3 laboratory

  • Must have good communication and analytical skills and the ability to meet project deadlines.

  • Requires long periods of sitting and standing in Respiratory Protection.

  • Handling of various chemicals.

  • Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required.

  • Able to perform after-hours support for laboratory equipment.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain BPRP clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a military medical research laboratory.

  • Significant wet lab experience with infectious disease protocols is highly desired.

Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a security clearance.
