The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer will work with several groups at QRC, including the software and hardware engineering, production, and quality teams to creatively research, design, implement, integrate, test and maintain signal processing and physical level Wireless/Radio Communications algorithms, software libraries, and other components as integral parts of larger software/FPGA-based wireless/radio applications. This position assumes a great deal of independent thinking, understanding of product goals, architectural and technical leadership in creation of modules to serve the signal intelligence industry. The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer will design, implement and integrate algorithms, software libraries, and other components as integral parts of larger software/FPGA-based applications. The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer will create and update requirements specifications, write and review design and specification documents and will participate in code reviews.
An understanding of the use, creation, and implementation algorithms for communications and RF signal processing is required. The ability to use code profilers and other best practices for performance optimization is also required.
The successful candidate must possess strong communications skills, a "can-do" positive attitude, for a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, a creative imagination, and an ability to adjust to evolving requirements. It is expected that the candidate will keep current with new development techniques and technologies.
Fredericksburg, VA is the ideal location for this position, but remote work is available for the right candidate.
Research, design, implement, integrate, test and maintain signal processing and physical level Wireless/Radio Communications algorithms to satisfy end customer needs
Design, code, and test algorithms written in MATLAB, C or C++, and implemented on embedded processors
Apply theoretical and practical knowledge of digital filters, Fast Fourier Transforms (FFTs), radio frequency receivers/transmitters, signal synchronization, modulation/demodulation, bit error protection/detection/correction, voice coding and overcoming wireless/radio communications channel/system impairments (e.g., non-linearities, fading, multipath, etc.)
Use code profilers and other best practices for speed optimization on embedded processors
Maintain and improve knowledge of FPGA/DSP and wireless/radio communications theory and practice
Attention to detail, performance, timelines, quality, and robustness
Develop and update requirement, write and review design and specification documents, and participation in code reviews
Work well both as part of a group and as an independent developer
Communicate well with others, express a "can-do" positive attitude, meet deadlines, be creative, adjust to evolving requirements
Experience with FSK, PSK, QAM, OFDM and frequency hopping modulation/demodulation theory and practice
Experience with MATLAB-based algorithm design, signal processing, and modeling
Experience programming signal processing algorithms in C and/or C++ Experience in developing requirements definitions and functional
Experience implementing DSP and physical level Wireless/Radio Communications algorithms in VHDL or Verilog desirable
Cellular communication (e.g., GSM, CDMA/EVDO, WCDMA, WiMAX, LTE etc.) as well as HF/VHF/UHF communications experience desirable
Experience implementing algorithms in VHDL or Verilog strongly desired
Experience with both Xilinx and Altera (Intel) FPGAs, Vivado, Quartus, and simulation tools strongly desired
Strong background in communications theory strongly desired
Experience with Agile development methodologies desirable
Candidates must be eligible to obtain a security clearance when sponsored by QRC
Preferred Skills or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or other equivalent field or discipline (advanced degree is a plus)
10+ years of workplace experience designing and developing embedded software and/or FPGA algorithms for physical level Wireless/Radio Communications
