Traffic Control Manager

We are hiring for Phase 4 of the Kicking Horse Canyon program based in beautiful Golden, British Columbia. Golden is renowned for its breath-taking mountain setting and easy access to word class skiing, hiking, and outdoor adventures nestled in the heart of the beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains. The Phase 4 program will extend until the end of 2023 . We have been instrumental in completing the first 3 phases of the 26 km roadway, with 21 KM already completed. This phase of the design/build project includes roadway reconstruction and expansion through the canyon, which is part of the Trans-Canada highway between Alberta and British Columbia.

This particular roadway is narrow, with steep drop offs, and carries 10,000 vehicles per day during peak summer months. This project will involve the expansion of 4 KM of roadway from 2 lanes to 4 in difficult mountainous and rock terrain through the canyon, which will include rock blasting in challenging terrain, with possible structures and retaining walls to protect against rock hazards, as well as utility relocation and traffic maintenance while executing construction that starts in early 2021. Position Overview:

Manages all on-site Traffic Management activities associated with the completion of the Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4 Project. Applies a comprehensive knowledge of various disciplines to be used during construction, as well as the methods and techniques to be utilized for installation. Incumbent must become thoroughly familiar with required contractual obligations and technical aspects of all scopes to be completed. In addition to Traffic Management supervision, the incumbent is also responsible for field administration, procurement, and field engineering. Willingness to relocate to construction site location is expected.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Directs the overall planning of traffic management activities to identify critical milestones and priorities

  • Determines budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule. Ensures that the services of subcontractors and major construction equipment required by the project will be available at the appropriate time to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity

  • Establishes assignments for staff for various work areas of construction operations, monitoring progress and recommending corrective action as necessary

  • Conducts performance evaluations and recommends promotions and salary actions

  • Manages the assignment of manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency, maintain schedules, and to meet budget goals. Keeps alert to possible problem areas and takes preventative action to ensure that critical milestones are met for each phase of the project

  • Prepares periodic reports summarizing progress of construction activities for higher-level management and clients

  • Ensures effective implementation of all Company and client policies and procedures, including labor relations policies

  • Serves as the primary contact with client representatives, subcontractors, and government representatives for traffic management-related activities. Maintains strong client and community relations

  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • 4-year degree in construction-related field (or equivalent construction-related work experience)

  • 10 + years of experience in field construction is required

  • Experience in the construction of large civil/structural and/or industrial projects at domestic and/or foreign locations is preferred

  • Proven leadership and management capability is required
