Parsons is now hiring a Principal Bridge Engineer to provide support to the Technical Director and Senior Project Managers in Halifax. The primary scope of this role is to develop bridge and structural designs for work locally and across Canada. The role includes the technical mentorship of junior to senior engineers. This person will have a desire to work on creating innovative, practical solutions to various bridge projects out of our Halifax office.

Your knowledge of bridge design methods, goals and objectives will be instrumental in helping us win new work and execute projects to the clients’ satisfaction. As a “seller”, you will assist our BD team in identifying new opportunities within Nova Scotia and HRM, be instrumental in developing proposals and helping us win opportunities. As a “doer”, you will plan and define project / program goals and devise methods to accomplish them from a technical delivery perspective. You will assist the project manager and regional director in technical coordination of projects through all project phases from inception, planning, design, construction and closeout. Along with your P.Eng. and 15 years of experience, you’ll have experience leading the technical delivery of bridge projects and have a strong work ethic.
Principal structural designer, responsible for the structural discipline in major bridge design and rehabilitation projects.
Manage project delivery withing schedules, budgets and quality requirements.
Liaison and coordination with clients, stakeholders and sub-consultants.
Oversee and take part in the preparation of engineering design plans, engineering computations, technical reports, specifications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
Review and approve project technical documentation, including drawings and specifications.
Manages and communicates with internal team and external clients/agencies.
Leads and supervises engineers and designers on project assignments.
Lead and participate in project meetings as well as participate in site visits and field inspection as required.
Assist in business development activities and undertake leadership roles in proposal preparation including assistance in developing project methodology, work programs, schedules, budgets.
Prepare technical reports and documentation of activity for clients and project management, and promoting technical excellence and quality assurance of project tasks and deliverables.
Maintain an awareness of trends, developments and advancements in the transportation engineering field to retain technical competency, and to provide state-of-the-art services and advice to our clients.
Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Bachelor of Civil Engineering with specialization in structures, Masters or PhD in structural engineering strongly preferred
15+ years of professional experience in bridge design
Canadian registration as a Professional Engineer or equivalent is required
Ability to work independently on a diverse range of design projects
Knowledge of bridge standards (including CAN/CSA-S6) and structural analysis software (SAP, CSiBridge, MIDAS, etc.)
Conversant with CHBDC CSA-S6, AASHTO LRFD, American Concrete Institute (ACI) and Steel Construction Manual of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) codes and standards
Demonstrate experience investigating, analyzing and resolving difficult design problems
Demonstrate excellent English written and oral communication skills.
