SQL Database Developer
Parsons is looking for a database developer to directly support the Missile Defense Agency’s Advanced Technology Directorate.
In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive technology database platform in a client/server environment. Specialists handle integration, access methods, access time, validation checks, organization, security, documentation and statistical methods. You will work with end users to develop database specifications, design system architecture and is involved with the design and implementation of a new comprehensive technology database.
Directly manages at least one complex database platform (one with multiple databases, large volume of data or integration with more than one application).
Maintains database dictionaries; monitors and implements standard procedures. Integrates systems through client/server database design and implementation.
Revises definition of data as defined in data dictionary.
Develops a data model describing data elements and defining how they are used, following standard industry and Government procedures.
Maintains records of database usage, maintenance and other issues; generates statistics and creates reports based on database use and requirements.
Specifies levels of database access and assigns database access to authorized IT staff and end users.
Trains database users and works directly with users to improve their effectiveness in using the database.
Consults with end users to identify issues, questions and problems with the database and to develop effective solutions.
Recommends standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information.
Develops methods for integrating different products so they work properly together, such as customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.
Uses database management system manuals, industry standards and other information to develop processes and procedures for developing, maintaining, and upgrading the database.
Plans and configures the physical database environment for more complex database systems.
Designs replication strategy and database backup and restore process for complex database systems.
Creates workflow charts to define tasks the computer will perform, such as updating records.
Plans and schedules standard database maintenance and updates.
Works with end users to identify necessary modifications and upgrades. Develops a schedule and budget for making database system modifications and upgrades.
Recommends modifications and upgrades to existing complex database systems.
Tests programs or databases to assure they are working at optimum capacity, to correct errors and to make necessary modifications.
Plans, coordinates and implements security measures to safeguard information in the computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.
Schedules, coordinates and supervises the installation, testing and implementation of new products, improvements to the existing database systems or installation of new databases.
Works as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine scope and limitations of projected modifications and upgrades as well as new database systems.
Maintains knowledge of industry trends in database systems and may recommend implementation of new or evolving technologies, presenting the business case for creating a new database system or using a new technology.
A thorough understanding of applicable database and project software applications and technology.
An advanced knowledge of standard database concepts, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of new technologies and current industry direction.
Knowledge of at least two database platforms as well as knowledge of multiple script and programming language necessary to create basic tables, views, and stored procedures.
Proficiency in utilizing multiple programming languages (e.g., SQL, Visual Basic, JAVA, etc.) for application development and database management in leading database platforms (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, etc.) .
Ability to work effectively and communicate with team members and end users on technical and non-technical subjects.
Written and oral communication skills appropriate for the position , including the ability to speak with authority on technical issues in various professional settings and to persuade listeners regarding best approach to resolving user's problem(may include communication via telephone, in person, presenting to large groups, community events). Ability to write complex documents (may include policies and procedures as well as presentations). Communicates with a wide variety of individuals (employees and all levels of management) throughout the organization and outside of the organization (i.e. clients, vendors).
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Experience with data integration and the ability to act as architect for data integration projects.
4-year degree in Computer Science (or relatedcurriculum).
10+ years of progressive experience in databaseanalysis and management.
U.S. citizens ONLY due to government or federal requirement.
