Job Description:

Parsons is seeking an experienced Public Outreach Specialist in both Indianapolis, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky to support our growing portfolio of major transportation projects in the Midwest by helping to lead and execute communication plans for major transportation projects . The position involves public outreach and communications support for complex transportation infrastructure projects during the preliminary design/NEPA phase and construction. With the goal of creating project understanding, as well as positive project perception, the position will require expert skill and experience in a variety of internal and external communication strategies, plus the ability to create strong relationships with impacted residents and businesses, community/business organizations, elected officials, regulatory agencies, the client-owner and company-internal constituents.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Develop an understanding of the project, key issues, and potential stakeholders and create a public involvement plan to meet the project team’s and client’s goals

  • Develop strategies and tactics to build project understanding, engagement and acceptance

  • Develop strategies and tactics to effectively and efficiently engage stakeholders

  • Prepare written and visual content for use in project communications, including press releases, social media posts, websites, presentations, handouts and brochures

  • Support public outreach events, including public meetings, committee meetings; attend community events

  • Represent projects and clients in public

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • 4-year degree in Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, or Journalism (or equivalent)

  • Preferred 3-5 years of directly related work experience

  • Strong writing skills

  • Excellent communications skills

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Experience working in public sector communications highly desirable

  • Experience in media relations desirable

  • Experience with transportation/infrastructure projects desirable

  • Understanding the project development and NEPA processes desirable

  • Exemplary professional attitude and demonstrated ability to exercise excellent customer service and support, is required, as is the ability to interface effectively with a variety of people

Salary Range:

$59,300.00 - $103,800.00
