Job Description:

The Principal Engineer is responsible for the effective control of the Structural Engineering Unit. Provides professional engineering discipline support to the program projects with an emphasis on promoting and maintaining the technical adequacy, uniformity, and quality of the project designs in conformance with approved standards and codes. A Member of the Technical Support Section of the Engineering Department providing support to all JCPDI projects. Reports professionally to the TSS Supervisor and RC Section Manager. Provides effective leadership and technical assistance in a specialized area to subordinates or peers. Interfaces with other engineering disciplines, project staff, other RC/MSC departments, A/E representatives, and construction contractor representatives.

  • Perform structural engineering work to meet the development program requirements.

  • Coordinate structural engineering activities with those of other disciplines within the Engineering Department and Royal Commission Departments as necessary.

  • Provide technical advice to other sections within the MSC and the Royal Commission.

  • Prepare technical specifications and scope of work descriptions.

  • Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) documents with the design concept.

  • Provide technical assistance during pre-bid conferences, proposal evaluations, and post-award or other contract conferences.

  • Review A/E contractor design drawings, specifications, and calculation submittals and coordinate with the work of other disciplines.

  • Review vendor and shop drawings, and construction materials.

  • Perform field inspections and provide professional field support as necessary during construction phases.

  • Perform Quality Control (QC) activities related to concrete.

  • Perform investigation of distressed/damaged structures and prepare repair procedures.

  • Prepare interface layouts and provide solutions for conflicts.

  • Prepare man-hour estimates and material take-offs.

  • Prepare technical correspondence, reports, and studies.

  • Prepare requests for geotechnical investigations.

  • A Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from a recognized University with a minimum of 12 years of professional experience, a minimum of 10 years of Structural design experience for infrastructure, building, power plants, desalination and cooling plants.

  • A minimum of 8 years experience as a discipline team lead or supervisor.

  • Previous experience of working in the Middle East and knowledge of Saudi regulations will be considered an advantage.

  • Registration in Country of Origin in an Engineering Professional Association equivalent to US PE or UK Chartered Engineer status is essential.

  • The ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English is essential
