Parsons Corporation Senior Environmental Specialist (Sustainability) in Jizan, Saudi Arabia

Job Description:

3. Major Activities Performed: List the major job function(s) of the position

  • Lead and develop interdepartmental Project wide sustainability and environmental goals, objectives, initiatives and strategies, in collaboration with other Technical Divisions and Departments, to achieve the City’s Vision as a Smart and Sustainable City.

  • Introduce, implement and monitor sustainability initiatives, considering factors such as best practices, cost-effectiveness, and technical feasibility.

  • Chair / co-ordinate environmental workshops and committees such as the smart sustainable city committee.

  • Champion high standards of environmental performance within multidisciplinary engineering projects, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental outcomes in line with the Client’s Master Plan Vision.

  • Provide technical and administrative support for environmental sustainability programs and challenges.

  • Project and track sustainability indicators, such as likely energy usage, natural resource usage, waste generation, and recycling etc.

  • Research and review regulatory, technical, and market issues related to environmental and sustainability practices globally and specifically in the Middle East.

  • Advise, develop and review environmental and sustainability proposals or policies.

  • Present best practice information about environmental and sustainability initiatives to inform senior management.

  • Develop reports/ presentations to communicate the effectiveness of environmental and sustainability initiatives.

  • Identify needed resources and partners to implement environmental and sustainability programs or projects.

  • Participate in marketing, such as brochures or websites, to communicate environmental and sustainability issues, procedures, or objectives.

  • Develop grant applications or project proposals to secure funding for environmental and sustainability initiatives.

  • Identify, modify or create new environmental and sustainability indicators suitable for JCPDI.

  • Champion the coordination and delivery of environmental initiatives being undertaken by Departments in Technical Affairs.

  • Provide technical planning advice including the development of Environmental management processes, procedures & guidelines suitable for key sustainability projects.

  • Meet with stakeholders and regulators and obtain statutory approvals for environment components of projects.

  • Deliver Environmental and Sustainability assessment across of range of topics and initiatives providing clear, well written reports.

  • Support the Sustainability Lead in his role in managing the team, providing technical support and covering when he is on leave.

  • Competently undertake own work to an excellent standard, and review the work of others.

  • Able to manage clients' needs and present well developed ideas in a confident, professional manner.

Experience and Qualifications: List the background experience required for the position, number of years’ experience, in what fields.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least 10 years of related work experience including time dedicated primarily to sustainability, preferably with some time spent on projects in the Middle East region.

  • In depth knowledge of current Sustainability Standards such as LEED, Envision, Mostadam, BREEAM, Green Star, Estidama.

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Planning, Sustainability or related discipline preferable.

  • Accreditation of at least two of the following: with LEED (AP), Envision (ENV SP) and Mostadam SP/AP

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental or related field.

  • Ability to professionally and effectively communicate both orally and in writing

  • Experience in leading and coordinating technical teams

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Adobe Professional, office automation products, and creating and manipulating environmental databases
