Job Description:
Principal Objective: A brief summary of the responsibilities of the position
The primary objective of a Senior Resident Construction Engineer - Architect is to oversee and ensure the successful execution of Housing & Facilities projects from a construction and architectural perspective. They are responsible for managing the construction process, ensuring compliance with design plans and specifications, and maintaining quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Major Activities Performed: List the major job function(s) of the position.
Construction Management: Oversee and manage all construction activities to ensure they align with design intent and project requirements.
Design Review: Evaluate architectural designs, drawings, and specifications for accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
Project Planning: Develop construction plans, schedules, and budgets in coordination with the project team.
Construction Supervision: Monitor and supervise construction activities on-site to ensure adherence to design plans, specifications, and industry standards.
Quality Control: Establish and implement quality control measures to ensure the construction work meets required standards and specifications.
Contractor Coordination: Coordinate and liaise with contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure effective collaboration and timely project delivery.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate project documentation, including progress reports, change orders, and record drawings.
Risk Management: Identify and address construction-related risks, issues, and challenges, and propose effective solutions.
Permitting and Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, regulations, permits, and safety standards.
Client Communication: Interface with clients to provide project updates, address concerns, and manage client expectations.
Experience and Qualifications: List the background experience required for the position, number of years’ experience, in what fields. Describe the desirable academic background.
Bachelor's degree in Architecture (B. Arch) or related field from a Western University with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience within an Architectural field.
Considerable knowledge of the practices and principles of design.
Must have sound overall experience in problem-solving field-based engineering and construction troubleshooting.
In-depth working knowledge of Architectural and International Building Codes including SBC and SASO.
Extensive experience with building use classifications and analysis for fire safety and life safety codes.
Extensive experience with building technology and materials.
Strong working experience of AutoCAD Revit. At a minimum, a Good Working knowledge of working in a BIM Environment (strong BIM Experience would be an advantage) with 3D modeling software is a plus.
Knowledge of computers and basic software applications: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
The ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English is essential.
