DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Mechanical Engineer independently develops and/or supervises the creation of engineering products that meet customer quality requirements. This includes defining the problem, establishing the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status. Manage and review the mechanical engineering deliverable, such as HVAC equipment and systems, for code compliance and/or physical or program deficiencies that would require capital expenditures. Additionally, may interact and coordinate projects with design, construction, planning, real estate, and other related discipline leads. Review mechanical engineering documents, codes, project cost estimates, as well as statements of work. Performs advanced, complex engineering assignments using convention or innovative engineering techniques and analyses. At this level, the Engineer is fully proficient in the utilization of standard engineering theories and practices.
Typical products may include detailed calculations, drawings, procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal evaluations, technical reports, and detailed analyses.
Provides support for other engineering activities as required. Responsible to implement the project quality plan and quality procedures and productivity related to all electrical works in accordance with program of work on construction site. Assists in defining the process for execution of engineering activities related to all types of mechanical systems; and to identify the need for specialty assistance.
Reviews contract drawings, specifications and other procurement materials that have been prepared by others and provides comments on the results of the reviews. Reviews supplier drawing submittals and performs technical bid analyses.
Oversees the preparation of contract drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes. Regularly interfaces with other engineering disciplines as well as other departments.
Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.
Understands all related codes and their application to the project; and overseas/manages the interface with local agencies to coordinate design standards usage and monthly approvals' process.
Maintains awareness of the project mechanical specifications, drawings and design criteria.
Provides technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses. Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations.
Prepares standard engineering computations, material quality takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.
Performs complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately.
Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.
Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower level Engineers working on the same project.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with ten (10) years experience able to demonstrate a sound understanding of mechanical design principles as applied to MEP and HVAC systems for building and industrial facilities.
Conversant in the use of engineering software packages including sizing of HVAC chillers and ducting, air flow modeling, plant piping and fire suppression systems.
Sound knowledge of relevant local and international standards and codes of practice.
Understanding of quality and safety aspects of the design development process.
