Job Description:

Parsons has been a leader in the planning, design and delivery of transportation infrastructure across the world for more than 75 years. We are looking for a senior professional with strong transportation planning and traffic engineering background, and project management skills to add to our Mobility Solutions team at our Markham office in the Greater Toronto Region. While the Markham office will be considered your home office, you will also have the flexibility to work from our offices in Toronto, Oakville, Kitchener and St. Catherine, or even part-time from home, and you will be required to attend meetings at other offices as the need arises. Our team is focused on helping our provincial and municipal clients expand and improve their transportation infrastructure and systems through innovative solutions to their tough planning and design challenges.

In this role you'll be responsible for planning and managing projects/tasks involving multimodal transportation planning and traffic engineering. In addition, we are in the process of developing a strong market presence in new mobility planning and design where we are actively adding key resources to our team, including professionals with experience and knowledge in emerging technologies, new methods/tools, data analytics and big data applications in transportation. In this role, you will have opportunities to expand your experience and knowledge in the technology-driven and rapidly changing areas to facilitate and advance the transformation of our transportation systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing work plans and leading the execution of projects, incl. day-to-day management of work scope / schedule / budget for assigned projects/tasks, monitoring progress to meet project requirements, and identifying and mitigating potential project issues and risks.

  • Supervising and providing directions / reviews of the work undertaken by other professional / technical staff to ensure efficiency, productivity, and high quality in the delivery of the projects/tasks.

  • Leading the preparation of technical reports and presentations, participating in client meetings, public information meetings, field / site visits, and liaising with clients, contractors, public agencies, and other project stakeholders.

  • Undertaking proposal preparation / coordination, incl. developing project understanding, methodology, work programs, schedules, and budgets.

  • Assisting with overall team management and building, as well as mentoring / developing / training junior staff.

  • Performing other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Transportation Planning/Engineering or in other professional disciplines pertinent to the job function combined with relevant technical background and project management experience. A relevant postgraduate degree is highly desirable.

  • 5+ years of multimodal transportation planning and/or traffic engineering experience (including master plans, environmental assessments, feasibility studies, corridor management/optimization studies, and transportation infrastructure/systems preliminary/detailed design studies) with at least 2-3 years of successful project management experience.

  • Experience with transportation infrastructure and systems improvement practices in the GTA and a good understanding of transportation planning/engineering issues, challenges, and clients’ and stakeholders’ needs and requirements.

  • Intimate knowledge of transportation planning and traffic engineering practices and in particular familiarity with Travel Demand Modelling/Forecasting, Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM), traffic flow theory, and multimodal transportation modelling and analysis methods/tools, such as EMME, Dynameq, Vissim, Aimsun, Synchro/SimTraffic, ARCADY, SIDRA, etc.

  • Excellent working knowledge of and strong hands-on experience with transportation data management and analyses using GIS/databases, programming in C/python, integrating, exploring, and visualizing data using tools such as Power BI is desired.

  • Knowledge and experience with advanced, automated mobility and/or smart city transportation solutions and applications are desired.

  • Registration with Professional Engineers of Ontario, and other relevant professional licensing organizations is desired but not a requirement.
