Job Description:

Parsons is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer having relevant experience as a resident project representative for the Owner on wastewater pumping station projects. The successful candidate will supervise all works relevant to pumping station construction and commissioning works for project compliance, including monitoring progress and quality of construction performed by contractors, conferring with contractors regarding conformance with plans and specifications, and taking proactive measures to facilitate project success. The Resident Engineer will carry out their responsibilities at the project site in Vaughan including:

  • Review construction documents including plans and specifications; interpret plans and specifications for construction work performed by contractors; ensure contractual compliance with plans, specifications, codes and safety requirements; verify that materials being incorporated into project are per specification and with approved construction practices; coordinate equipment isolations, equipment and process tie-ins.

  • Provide technical assistance and support to construction inspectors; provide technical training/guidance as appropriate.

  • Prepare a variety of administrative and technical reports, memos, letters, and correspondence.

  • Perform analysis of change orders and support project manager in preparation of reports and supporting documents for for consideration by the owner.

  • Maintains first-level quality assurance to confirm that the installation of all work within their discipline is in accordance with the plans, specifications, and industry standards.

  • Ensures that tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with approved procedures.

  • Ensures that personnel of the assigned group engage in safe work practices in compliance with site-specific safety procedures and industry standards.

  • Establishes and maintains liaison with design engineering staff.

  • Reviews and interprets discipline design drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and correct technical execution of the work.

  • Provides resolution for technical engineering problems and coordinates application of solutions.

  • Maintains a daily log for permanent record of project construction, as well as discipline data for the final project turnover and report.

Interested? You’ll have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering along with professional registration (P.Eng) in good standing with PEO.

  • 12+ years demonstrable experience, of which 5 years in similar capacity of wastewater pumping station construction.

  • Possession of comprehensive knowledge of engineering and construction-related processes, as well as industry best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large wastewater pumping and conveyance projects, including resolution of disputes and mitigation of risks.

  • Experience with facility start-up and commissioning.

  • Experience must include all Health & Safety and Environmental Protection aspects of the construction works.

  • Ability to: monitor job progress and review contractor’s schedule updates, process Contractor’s shop drawings, anticipate problems and develop solutions to overcome problems, respond quickly to contractor’s RFI’s, submittals and other field issues.

  • Strong leadership quality to lead and motivate a team of Inspectors in a Design, Bid, Build project environment.

  • Ability to work at the project site.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software.

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
