Job Description:

Are you seeking that next step to broaden your career scope, and work on a variety of transportation Infrastructure projects including Streets, Highways, Transit and Rail medium to large scale projects in Ontario and around.

Parsons is now hiring for a Senior Project Designer with demonstrated experience on streets, highways and transit projects in Ontario, in Greater Toronto Region. You will perform a wide variety of engineering tasks for streets/roads, highway, rail, and transit projects from feasibility studies, preliminary engineering, and final design to report writing and assisting Project manager in carrying out all technical and assist in carrying out the project management works. You will perform in a task lead capacity and take responsibility for delivering completed assignments. Experience working with local Region and Municipalities, MTO and Metrolinx and or Infrastructure Ontario is essential.

This is a leadership role whereby the successful candidate will act as a conduit between the technical project manager and design team to carry out various design tasks on projects and to assist the Project Manager in carrying our technical project management works.

Core Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design on transportation infrastructure focused projects and engineering tasks such as geometric design, engineering analyses, and project plan and contract documents development.

  • Experience with design engineering of streets, roads, highways, ramps, interchanges, intersections and roundabouts.

  • Highly Experience with the modelling of road geometry using Civil 3D, and experience with InRoads, OpenRoads and/or MicroStation.

  • Prepare engineering design plans, engineering computations, technical reports, specifications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.

  • Assist the project manager in executing and delivering project assignments.

  • Manages and communicates with internal team and external clients/agencies.

  • Plans, leads, and supervises junior level engineers and designer(s) on same assignments and act as mentor and assume responsibility of the entire works.

  • Lead and participate in project meetings as well as participate in site visits and field inspection as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or related field).

  • 15+ years or more of experience working as a lead in a project capacity with diversified experience in roadway design.

  • Municipal and MTO projects experience and knowledge of MTO/municipal standards, policies, and manuals.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD/Civil 3D and MicroStation/InRoadsor OpenRoads and able to train Junior Staff.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

  • Ability to apply advanced engineering techniques and practices as well as solve complex engineering problems.
