We are looking for an experienced deputy resident engineer to join our construction resident engineering team in supporting a major capital rehabilitation program in the New York City area.
In this role, you will support the Resident Engineer in overseeing the activities of the office engineers, construction inspectors, and administrative/project personnel. You will monitor contractor’s work for compliance to schedule, budget, technical specifications, and code requirements for projects for New York City and the State DOT. This position requires an effective team leader who can mentor project team members and foster a working environment where a culturally and diverse project staff can work cooperatively to deliver the project on-time and on-budget. As a Senior Field Engineer you will also be lead for nighttime work operations, support the RE and interface with the contractors.
Assist in the daily resident engineering responsibilities
Coordinate the work, and be responsible for ensuring all project deliverables are in conformance with the technical specifications of the contract
Resolve design and field construction problems, attend progress meetings and reports on project status. Expedite design and field changes. Review contractor requests for change, and when appropriate, assist in the preparation of contract change orders/modifications.
Communicate to the contractor construction techniques and changes where necessary to enhance job safety
Review contractor as-builts for compliance with contract documents
Participate in construction progress meetings, readiness review meetings, third-party coordination meetings, design coordination meetings and other construction meetings. Draft up the meeting minutes
Participate in all submittal review, RFIs, claim reviews and responses
Monitor and report on construction progress, and participate in meetings
Ensure compliance with applicable quality programs
Provide technical scope and justification for contract changes, and complete other tasks as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or related field
PE License (Required)
At least 8+ years of experience in civil, heavy highway, and bridge construction with experience in the areas of structural steel rehab and deck concrete construction.
Work over track experience is a plus
some night and weekend can be expected
Must have reliable transportation
