Site Signal Engineer, Construction Inspection New York, NY
Parsons is now hiring a Site Signal Engineer for up and coming work for NYCT.
With minimal supervision, the selected candidate will perform the most difficult and complex inspection tasks, including assessing adherence to quality control procedures. Inspects various facets of work on the jobsite and performs continuous surveillance of assigned inspection activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Documents nonconformance and participates in determining appropriate resolution. Inspection activities are usually concentrated in one or more of the following areas: soils, concrete, asphalt, utilities, architectural, steel, mechanical, or electrical. Frequently serves in the capacity of Lead Inspector. Willingness to travel and/or to relocate to field sites is expected. Performs work in safe manner and is cognizant of public safety.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Conducts inspections to determine if work has been done in accordance with contract specifications and may include any of the following:
- Perform inspection services such as the installation of signal and track cases, installation of I-J joints, wiring signal cases, installation of messenger cables, pulling line and local cables, wiring relays in relay room and other aspects of work involved with a signal project.
Maintains office files related to the project, quantity calculations and writes daily diaries.
Prepares daily reports and other documentation, as required by contract.
Verifies that only approved materials are incorporated in the work.
Performs labor compliance interviews and maintains as-built plans.
Recognizes potential conflicts, issues and problems, and reports to supervisor with proposed solution.
Collects, reviews and files Certificate of Compliance, MSDS, inspection tags and other information relevant to the materials used.
Provides technical guidance and delegates responsibilities as appropriate to lower-level inspectors.
Coordinates work of subconsultants for surveying and material testing.
Recommends job safety practices and drafts safety reports.
Prepares quality control reports and recommends changes to procedures.
Reports on installed quantities to verify applications for payment and change order work.
Responds to the call backs in case of emergency at the project site.
The individuals will be required to work a full 40-hour week (exclusive of a 30-minute lunch/break); days, nights and weekends as needed. Due to the amount of weekend coverage needed and shortage of weekend help covering 55-hour weekend General Orders, weekend shifts are mandatory.
Regular day off (RDOs) will not be applicable on Saturdays and Sundays.
Plans and coordinates all field inspection activities and reviews the work of Representatives to ensure compliance with job specifications.
Will prepare summary reports, respond to various problems of Representatives, authorize expenses and overtime, and assist Resident Engineers in completion of construction work in accordance with design.
2-year degree in a technical discipline or construction-related field, or a high school diploma and equivalent work experience, is required.
5+years of related experience on communications projects, electrical projects or signaling / large rail transit systems projects
Construction safety training including valid OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification is required
Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications, be totally familiar with construction-related processes related to area of assignment,
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; to follow oral and written instructions and prepare written messages and reports.
Capability to perform math calculation in order to prepare engineering calculations, graphs and charts. Proficiency with basic computer usage, knowledge of Microsoft Office, and internet search engines (like Google or equivalent) required.
Requires ability to climb ladders, inspect work above ground, and work in confined spaces.
