Parsons Corporation Construction Inspector - Catskills Aqueduct in Newburgh, New York

Parsons is now hiring 7 Construction Inspectors in Newburgh, NY. The selected candidates will start ASAP. The candidates will work 7 days a week, 12-hour days until Shutdown completion January 7,2022 then clean up and complete all reporting by January 21,2022. Crews will have Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's day off. The job is the repair of the Historic Catskill aqueduct.
In this role, you will perform difficult and sometimes complex inspection tasks as well as inspect various facets of work on the construction site and perform continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Inspection activities are usually concentrated in one of the following areas: Confined space entry Structural concrete repair/ injection, mechanical valve removal and replacement, Temporary pumping and SWPPC, pipe testing. Willingness to travel and/or to relocate to field sites is expected. Travel, vehicle expenses room and meal will be reimbursed p the client NYDEP policy.
The program will consist of the Catskill Aqueduct Repair and Rehabilitation to restore the capacity of the Catskill Aqueduct. A new chlorination facility is proposed for construction at the Ashokan Screen Chamber with a dechlorination facility also proposed for 74 miles downstream in Westchester County NY. The proposed rehabilitation will include a full inspection of the aqueduct, repair of leaks, repair of valves and other mechanical equipment with additional air vents placed to facilitate the flow of water. Parsons as CM will be involved in the repair of the aqueduct, and construction of these facilities.
Conducts tests to determine if work has been done in accordance with contract specifications and may include any of the following: Performs civil and structural tests, such as soil compaction, moisture content, aggregation, graduation, concrete slump, air entrainment, concrete compression, lines and grades surveys, bolt torques, and concrete coring.
Performs paint thickness, and resistivity.
Performs surveillance of underground piping to ensure tightness, bedding, and grade.
Inspects and monitors piling installation to ensure location and bearing.
Inspects electrical installations to ensure proper grounding, circuit integrity, and adherence to statutory and customer regulations.
Performs continuing inspection of coatings to ensure thickness and coverage continuity.
Provides general inspection on all construction labor and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship.
Verifies equipment alignment and balancing operations. Participates in the development of quality control reports and procedures
Participates in the development of job safety practices and in the preparation of safety reports.
Associate's or equivalent degree in a technical discipline or construction related field, or a high school diploma and equivalent work experience, is required.
3+ years of related experience on heavy construction projects, as well as formal certification from an independent organization, depending on type of inspection assignment.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications and be thoroughly familiar with construction related processes related to area of assignment.
Previous experience working in a tunnel is preferred. The candidate will be confined in a small space.
Candidates must have OHSA 10 hour training within the last 5 years. 1910 confined space training and respirator fit testing will be part of the provided training
