Parsons is under contract to the City of Toronto for the provision of TOC (Transportation Operations Centre) operation services at the City's Traffic Management Centre (TMC) located at 703 Don Mills Road, Toronto, Ontario.

The TOC serves a critical emergency monitoring and response function for Toronto Transportation. The major functions are road network monitoring, management and dispatch.

In this position you'll provide operator support services for the City's network on a 24/7 basis, every day of the year. The role of the TOC Operator is to manage traffic along the City's roadways and improve the safety and efficiency of traffic flow by operating RESCU and incident management programs on a rotating shift basis.

In this role, you'll:

  • Perform operator functions as assigned by Parsons TOC Operations Supervisors to meet functions required by the City's Project Manager, including preparation of the daily shift report, major incident report, operator shift scan logs report, as well as input to the monthly TOC operations summary as required

  • Gather situational awareness on the City's entire road network

  • Monitor traffic operations along the expressway network and arterial roads within the City

  • Dispatch city staff and contracted crews for routine and emergency road traffic maintenance activities

  • Collect and disseminate road restriction / closure information to the public

  • Monitor the RESCU traffic cameras installed along the City's road network, and declaring and responding to traffic incidents in a timely manner

Interested? You will have:

  • Experience with operation and monitoring of traffic flow along expressways and arterial roads preferred

  • Experience working in a call center environment and familiarity working in a 24/7 environment

  • Practical knowledge of and experience with Advanced Traffic Management strategies such as incident detection, changeable message signs, incident management, radio dispatch and emergency service operations

  • Experience in working in a public service setting
