We are hiring a Structural Designer to support Bridge and Rail/Transit projects for our Ontario team. If you design to work on both conventional and design/build Bridge programs, and be a part of a global company that has transformed over 4400 bridges around the world - this is the opportunity for you! We have a large number of active bridge projects in the region, and several rail/transit projects with Bridge and other related structures in various stages of design, from concept to construction. At Parsons, we have the technical expertise to deliver any type of bridge design, including Long Span bridges, Segmental bridges, Cable-Stayed bridges, Movable bridges and Suspension Bridges as well as conventional bridges. Our Designers at this level typically takes engineering notes, specifications, rough sketches, etc., and formalizes them into working drawings. In this role you will develop working drawings from equipment specifications, engineering notes, sketches, and/or detailed drawings, ensuring that they meet company and industry standards and codes. Our Designers understand the materials and methods normally used within the assigned discipline.
Utilizes a CAD workstation to prepare structural engineering or bridge engineering drawings consisting of standard arrangements, layouts, flow sheets, assemblies, isometrics, etc., from rough sketches and/or from general engineering and design information according to established standards and procedures.
Works closely with other Designer/Drafters and Engineers to ensure a coordinated design.
Applies standard drafting/design principles and theories to complete assignments.
Utilizes technical manuals to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable standards and codes such as CSA, MTO Standard Details.
Ensures compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.
Compiles data and performs dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings.
Reads and understands orthographic (2D) and/or isometric (3D) designs and supplier/manufacturer drawings.
Associate's or equivalent technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is preferred
6+ years of relevant design experience for bridges and related steel/concrete structures experience.
Proficiency with Microstation, Civil 3D and AutoCAD software, knowledge of RIVET is an asset
Ability to interpret and ensure conformance to applicable standards such as CSA, MTO, TTC, MetroLinx relevant standards/guidelines, as well as company policies and procedures
