Parsons is now hiring an experienced Transportation Project Engineer/Planner with a desire to work on transportation planning, design and construction projects that change the urban fabric of our communities. The successful candidate will be performing at a Project Engineer level providing expertise on Parsons’ projects including the study, planning, functional, preliminary, and detailed design of transportation infrastructure. The project focus may include pathways, cycling facilities, complete streets, arterial roads, rapid transit facilities, and supporting infrastructure. Projects may be municipal, provincial, federal, or private in nature, or delivered through alternative means. The candidate will be in a position contribute to and/or lead the planning & design portions of projects. The candidate will also oversee establishment of Project Execution Plan, Health and Safety Plan, Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan, and other documents as required by Parsons’ policies, and perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

The candidate will carry out some or all of these responsibilities which may vary on a project by project basis:

  • Consult as a subject matter expert in the area of active transportation, complete streets, transit priority corridors, accessibility and inclusivity in transportation choices;

  • Lead or contribute to transportation studies including transportation master plans, corridor studies, and research on transportation best practices;

  • Be informed of trends in transportation infrastructure and current and potential future consulting opportunities;

  • Contribute to the planning and geometric design of projects or lead the design of portions of projects;

  • Contribute discipline-specific portions to larger consulting team proposals;

  • Prepare project planning and design schedules and budgets;

  • Carry out studies of existing infrastructure or site conditions including opportunities and constraints;

  • Lead the completion of transportation plans and studies;

  • Identify and evaluate alternative planning and engineering solutions to infrastructure challenges/opportunities;

  • Recommended preferred plans and designs and provide technical rationales;

  • Lead the preparation of active transportation concept plans, functional and preliminary designs and construction cost estimates;

  • Manage or coordinate the work of other disciplines and firms and work within the Parsons team environment;

  • Be on the vanguard for new clients and/or projects;

  • Manage or assist in the preparation of consulting team proposals;

  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders as required; and

  • Manage or assist in monitoring the financial performance of assignments.


4-year degree in Civil Engineering or degree in a related engineering discipline is required and 4+ years of related work experience, or equivalent, is preferred. Incumbent should have a broad general technical and business background. Professional registration as an Engineer or Registered Professional Planner in Ontario, or imminent registration, is required.

  • The incumbent will have the opportunity, in the fullness of time, to meet Parsons' project management certification requirements.

  • Proven ability to perform in a management capacity, excellent written and oral communications skills, experience in working with diverse stakeholders, and a thorough knowledge of industry practices, guidelines and regulations are also required.

  • Proficiency in English (oral and written) is required. Bilingual English/French is not required but is highly valued.
