Opportunity:

Parsons Ottawa is hiring for a Civil Engineer Co-op to support our expanding business. We have a number of senior engineers with expertise in: Steel Plate Girder Bridges, Prestressed Concrete Bridges, Cable Stayed Bridges, Truss Bridges, and Movable Bridges. In addition to local and regional projects, the office is frequently collaborating with teams around the country and around North America. Parsons engineers must be versatile, enthusiastic, team-oriented, and have exceptional communication, analytical and management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • As part of a team develops and/or supervises the creation of engineering products that meets and exceeds customer quality requirements. This includes defining the problem, establishing the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status

  • Work in the capacity of bridge project engineer on medium to large projects, will assume responsibility for the work of a wide-ranging group of professionals within Parsons and with our consulting and construction partners

  • Typical products may include detailed calculations, drawings, procurement documents, design packages, proposal evaluations, technical reports, and detailed analyses

  • Performs inspection of existing bridges and associated structures including coordination of inspection teams and specialized sub-consultants, leading field work, providing repair recommendations, and completing life cycle cost analysis

  • Provides support for other engineering activities as required

  • Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies

  • Helps determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule. May assist with other administrative and technical duties. Recommends and prepares technical papers.

  • Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and junior staff working on the same project

  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in Civil/Structural Engineering Program at an accredited university and have completed at least one year of study

  • Previous Co-op/Internship experience is a plus

  • Relevant course work required

  • Literate in PC software and other computer software used to complete design assignments.
