Job Description:

Parsons is currently recruiting for an biologist to support the Ecological Services group based in Ontario. Duties will include field investigations and inventories (e.g., breeding bird and amphibian surveys, tree inventories and assessments, Ecological Land Classification assessment, Wetland evaluation, and mapping), impact assessment studies and mitigation plans, during and post-construction monitoring of environmental project components, as well as preparation of technical reports and memos. The successful candidate will be required to work in the field and travel to job sites throughout Ontario.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience working in this or a related field (i.e., consulting or other agency);

  • Post-secondary education in ecology, environmental science, or related field;

  • ISA Certified Arborist;

  • Experience in the identification of Ontario flora and fauna (trees, shrubs, wildflowers, grasses, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and/or insects);

  • Experience in identifying and assessing terrestrial ecological impacts from development proposals and preparing environmental impact assessment reports;

  • Knowledge of Ontario environmental legislature and permitting related to the Endangered Species Act, Species at Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act;

  • MTO and infrastructure experience is an asset;

  • Completion of Erosion and Sediment Control Monitoring Training (e.g., Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC), International Erosion Control Association (IECA), Vancouver Island University (VIU), Erosion and Sediment Control Practitioner (ESCP) or Certified Professional of Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) an asset;

  • Certification in Ecological Land Classification an asset;

  • Certification in the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System an asset;

  • GIS experience;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; and

  • Must be able to travel to and from various work.

Parson’s Ecological Services Group works both in support of other internal groups (primarily transportation/highways and stormwater management) and also as an independent unit completing ecological assessments and monitoring duties directly for various clients.A job with the Ecological Services Group at Parsons may be waiting for you!
