Parsons Corporation Project Control Engineer/Specialist in Pasadena, California

The Project Controls Engineer/Specialist at this level gains exposure to Company policies and procedures and utilizes his/her professional training on a variety of assignments. The Associate Project Control Engineer may gain further experience by rotating through Estimating, Cost Engineering, and Planning/Scheduling assignments.


Cost Engineering:

  • Assists with the development and management of Federal Solutions cost control systems to provide project and company management with accurate financial information. Facilitates the development of the work breakdown structure (WBS), interfacing with Procurement, Engineering, and Finance Departments as needed.

  • Performs some independent analysis of data stored in the project management and cost control systems. Creates presentations using data analytics to illustrate cost status.

  • Creates custom reports and ad hoc data queries to support various analysis and reporting tasks.

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • Designs, builds, and maintains reports in SSRS, VBA, Excel, and IBM Cognos.

  • Understands and uses application development methodologies.

  • Works with stakeholders to defined and capture requirements for reporting solutions.

  • Builds SQL queries that consolidate and normalize data from various data sources.

  • Ensures data integrity through data reconciliation and analysis.

  • Uses analytical problem-solving skills in troubleshooting data issues and application errors.

Other Duties:

  • May provide guidance, direction, and specialized assistance to others in the resolution of project control problems.

  • Performs other functions associated with this position as appropriate.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Construction Management or related field (or equivalent experience) and typically up to 3 years of related work experience.

  • Familiarity with various software used in the Project Controls Department, such as Microsoft Office Suite. Additional skills may include the following: proficiency with SQL, experience with report authoring programs such as Cognos or SQL Server Reporting Services, and/or programming skills using ASP.NET and VB.NET.
