Job Description:

Parsons is seeking an Optics Engineer for work onsite at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ in the field of fire control and optics technology development.

Work onsite with a government customer to analyze, design, and develop prototype optical solutions for military applications. Develop and apply techniques to test and analyze new optical technologies and for new applications. Optical solutions may be required for various sensor types, including for the visible spectrum and for night vision or thermal sensors.

Required:

  • Understanding and experience with optical test equipment such interferometers, spectrometers, and microscopes.

  • Understanding and experience with modern photonics equipment including but not limited to lasers, spatial light modulators, single photon detection, and fiber optics.

  • Experience with programing such as MATLAB or Python.

  • Knowledge of digital image processing such as linear system analysis, FFTs, edge detection, and camera calibration.

  • Undergraduate degree in Physics, EE, or Computer Science and 5+ years of experience

Desired:

  • Advanced degree desirable but not essential.

  • Experience with Zemax software for design of optical and mechanical systems

  • Environmental testing of optical systems which requires having MILSTD (military standard) familiarity.

  • Testing and laboratory work which focus around small arms fire control systems, applications, marksmanship, and defense applications.

  • Good troubleshooting skills

Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a security clearance.
