Join us at BGCAPP (Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant) where we will design, build, systemize, test, operate and close the plant whose mission is the safe and environmentally sound destruction of the chemical weapons stockpile stored at the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD) in Richmond, KY. The 15,000 acre depot stores mustard and nerve agent in rockets and projectiles. Our design concept for the pilot plant maximizes the use of existing technology from other successful chemical demilitarization facilities and well as First of a Kind (FOAK) technology. Parsons is currently seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities:

Completes a wide variety of difficult engineering assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses within one discipline. The Engineer at this level is a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of most engineering theories and practices. Some assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications. Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site location, is expected.

Proficient in development and interpretation of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (PIDs), database applications. Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents. Prepares Mechanical and Process engineering computations and calculations.

Ability to resolve/disposition complex design issues in an operational environment. Prepares material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs. Completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes. Frequently interfaces with other Engineering disciplines as well as other departments. Extracts relevant information from design documents generated by complimentary disciplines. Provides technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and junior Engineers working on the same project. Interprets laboratory study reports and extrapolates the information to the design.

Prepares detailed requisitions for equipment and materials, technical bid evaluation and post award technical evaluation. Reviews supplier drawing submittals and performs technical bid analyses.

Experience in Systemization and Operations: troubleshooting equipment and systems, process improvement initiatives.

May be required to provide the seal and signature of the professional engineer, as appropriate, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.

May act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on engineering related matters. Prepare and deliver formal presentation to senior management and client. Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) and at least 10 years of related work experience.

  • 8 years experience with utility systems: steam, chilled water, sanitary, plumbing, fluid and heat transfer systems.

  • Experience with HVAC desirable.

  • Professional Engineer registration may be required.

  • Proficiency in utilizing CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is highly desirable

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES :

Potential to perform in a lead capacity, excellent written and oral communications skills, and a familiarity of industry practices and regulations are required. Must also possess a thorough knowledge of current technology and be able to select and apply appropriate engineering software for use on project.

Special Job Requirements:

BGCAPP is subject to the Army Regulations (AR 50-6 Chemical Surety and AR 190-59Chemical Agent Security Program) which govern persons performing work under the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP) and Unescorted Access Program (UAP). Depending on the work performed and the access granted a government security investigation and other physical requirements may be mandated. Eligibility to be placed in a CPRP or UAP position requires US citizenship and the ability to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Local Credit Check. (NACLC).

BGCAPP is a Drug Free Workplace.All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment.

This position may also require use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) andpersonnel must pass a respirator fit test and pulmonary function test.

Ability to obtain and maintain Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD) site access is required. Access requirements include completion of a local records check and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) check.

BGCAPP operates on a 24/7 schedule including weekends and holidays. Ability to work a flexible schedule may be required.
