Geospatial Software Support Engineer, Senior

Job Location: Springfield, Virginia, United States


  • Provide geospatial engineering, geospatial analysis, software, and computer programming support services for core geomatic functions to the Office of Geomatics, the standards development team, and other terrain team activities.

  • Responsible for the generation, maintenance, storage, and dissemination of rigorous geodetic, photogrammetric, and elevation data supporting several IC customers.

  • Collaborate with a well established Team to develop software to enhance image processing services for both government and commercial customers.

  • Support projects by developing web-based and programmed interfaces for production system databases and an image archive management system.

  • Implement and maintain a web-based GUI for presenting and interacting with imagery and metadata resident in a database.

  • Provide guidance to support the modernization of a suite of Python programs and GUI using ERDAS Imagine 2014 and ArcGIS 10.4 to process large repositories of raw TanDEM-X data to create usable, interim digital elevation models.

  • Support a Python-based system with GUI to reduce manual interactivity and to automate as much as possible the Basic DEM Standard Operating Procedure consisting of intermixed ArcGIS and ERDAS Imagine operations.

  • Optimize a Python-based system to process and deliver mosaicked raster tiles of the Continental U.S. and Hawaii as one-degree cells and convert each cell from floating point to integer representation.

  • Support the modernization efforts of Java components for a streaming stereo imagery program that was the prototype for a new web-based presentation of source materials to Government & Commercial customers.

  • Support mission partners in streamlining the process used to create a set of DTED 1 cells from a set DTED 2 cells using Python scripts with a graphical user interface and embedded, automatic use of the XVI Hex Editor to perform the DTED 1 header editing.

  • Assist the Team in converting terrain data software tools embedded in ERDAS Imagine v9 in the form of scripts and C programs to work in ERDAS Imagine v13.

  • Utilize several software tools to support Operations use of terrain data. Resolved issues with the project’s VMS OS as they arise.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience within related field and 6+ years of related experience.

  • Must currently possess an active TS/SCI security clearance and be able to obtain a polygraph level clearance after hire.


  • Knowledge of GitHub and/or GitLab. Knowledgeable of code compliance and best practices.

  • Knowledge of API's and Cloud Hosting.

  • Proficiency with MapInfo Pro, and verifying data/ imagery files.

  • Knowledge of Tortoise SVN (Apache Subversion (SVN) client) or Fortran Code.

  • Ability to identify systems enhancements and new capabilities, concept demonstrators, capability business cases.

  • Ability to provide training as new systems and capabilities move into operational use. Must be able to take leadership roles on technical teams.

  • Strength in collaboration and teamwork within, between, and across organizational boundaries.

  • Must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills, along with good interpersonal skills and an ability to work cooperatively and effectively as a team member. #CJ
